About the Position

As a Temporary Judicial Clerk at the Video Appearance Center assigned to the Intake, Transfer & Release Facility, you will work directly with in-custody inmates and primarily serve as a bailiff. This position requires a strong commitment to professionalism, accuracy, and safety within a secure environment.

The role performs a wide variety of judicial, clerical, and administrative duties related to misdemeanor criminal cases, including case processing and customer service functions. You will play a key part in ensuring the efficient operation of courtroom and facility procedures while maintaining effective communication with judges, law enforcement, and other court personnel.

This is a part-time position scheduled for 19.5 hours per week. The work schedule is Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with a start time between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and an end time of approximately 1:00 p.m., depending on the day's caseload. Availability during these hours is required. This position is temporary, with an anticipated end date of June 19, 2026.

We Require

  • Two years of clerical or administrative experience, including customer service, cash handling, and/or data entry

  • High school diploma or GED

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Job Contributions

  • Acts as a bailiff in court proceedings

  • Performs complex file management functions, including creating, tracking, and maintaining case files, matching documents, and researching record requests.

  • Coordinates and directs courtroom preparation with prosecutors, defense counsel, Sheriff's Department Officers, interpreters, and others as appropriate.

  • Engages in significant telephonic and direct public contact, responding to and answering complex inquiries from the public and other agencies regarding court cases.

  • Summarizes and prepares court proceedings in minute entry form; reads and interprets complex minute entries; and prepares and processes formal orders, documents, subpoenas, and summons at the direction of the Judge.

  • Issues court-related documents, marks, and maintains exhibits, administers oaths, and certifies documents.

  • Coordinates the court calendar, schedules hearings and conferences, and ensures cases are processed according to all relevant time and processing standards.

  • Opens and distributes mail, performs data entry into iCIS, and prepares and designs management information reports.

  • This position involves regular contact with individuals in custody, some of whom may exhibit mental health challenges or unpredictable behavior; employees must maintain composure, adhere to safety protocols, and exercise sound judgment at all times.
