What to Expect

The Cell Quality and Field Reliability team is seeking an engineer to lead field and manufacturing risk assessments, field failure root cause analysis, critical Li-ion cell component evaluation, and data analysis in both manufacturing and lab environments. Most projects will be multidisciplinary and focused on field reliability and safety, production throughput, and cost savings of Gigafactory Nevada cell & battery manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively interface with employees throughout the company ranging from production associates to executives within Tesla and suppliers. Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills are necessary to excel in this role. The candidate for this position must exhibit the knowledge and drive needed to not only challenge the status quo but also define and execute the optimal path forward.


What You'll Do
  • Lead the identification, root cause analysis, risk assessment, and resolution of new cell-related field failures and manufacturing quality issues
  • Lead the product risk assessment for cell manufacturing quality issues
  • Host cross functional reviews with leadership on program health and cell reliability issues
  • Drive FMEA activities with engineering and operations to proactively identify risks and incorporate new learnings
  • Champion cross functional projects with manufacturing, supply chain, production quality, and development teams to establish reliability product specifications
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to evaluate and mitigate risk of Process Change Requests (PCRs)

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated organization of large projects across various disciplines
  • Direct experience with complex technologies such as Li-ion cells/batteries, semiconductors, solar panels, etc.
  • Experience utilizing reliability engineering principles to assess product risk
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with technical and non-technical team members is essential
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional documentation, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with characterization techniques (Electrochemical, Thermal, Mechanical, Chemical, etc.)
  • Experience using data analysis and visualization software (Tableau, JMP, Minitab, etc.) and programming languages (SQL, Python, MATLAB etc.)
