Introduction to the job
This position is for a highly skilled with innovative attitude and motivated Process Engineer to join ASML Wilton Factory Optical Fabrication team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in process development, optimization, and sustaining support for optics manufacturing technologies, specifically our CNC processes within the Machining, Grinding, and Polishing work-centers. The candidate will be tasked to increase our CNC programming and automation capabilities. Our focus includes driving yield improvement, reducing scrap, and enhancing overall process efficiency across various polishing and fabrication operations while supporting industrialization of new development processes for production integration.
Role and responsibilities
- Champion a safety-first culture by identifying potential hazards, implementing risk mitigation strategies, and ensuring all work adheres to established EHS safety protocols
- Drive a quality-driven approach through rigorous process validation, consistent quality metrics monitoring, and zero-defect mindset
- Maintain focus on on-time delivery by balancing process improvements with production schedules and customer commitments.
- Develop, optimize, and sustain optical fabrication processes, including generating, grinding, and high-speed polishing.
- Set up and operate robotic arms for machining operation (loading/unloading parts), tool changing, and part transfers.
- Configure machines for autonomous production and active process monitoring.
- Audit automated processes to ensure consistency and prevent systematic part defects.
- Create and fine-tune CAM-generated code to optimize feed rates and speeds for maximum automated efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, metrology, and equipment maintenance to resolve technical challenges and implement sustainable solutions
- Define process specifications and control limits; utilize statistical analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab) to evaluate process capabilities and drive data-driven decision-making and maintaining 6P=P from feasibility to production-readiness phases
- Perform hands-on process trials and support qualification of new equipment, materials, and process changes to enhance production performance
- Document and maintain process specifications, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure knowledge retention and standardization
Education and experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Optical, Materials, or related field)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in optical fabrication process engineering or a related manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience with optics fabrication techniques, including CNC machining, polishing, and surface inspection
- Demonstrated machine operation and CNC programming experience
Skills
- Solid Modeling Software, NX preferred
- CAM Software, Mastercam preferred
- CNC Operating Systems - Siemens, Winmax, Fagor, Fanuc
- Proficient in statistical process control (SPC), root cause analysis (RCA), and lean manufacturing tools
- Familiarity with metrology techniques and quality assurance in optics manufacturing
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as JMP, Minitab, or equivalent software
- Demonstrated ability to lead problem-solving initiatives and implement process improvements
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with ability to work effectively across different departments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under tight deadlines
