POSITION SUMMARY:

Vice Chair of Quality and Safety

The Vice Chair for Quality and Safety for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology directs quality and safety (Q&S) efforts in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. The Vice Chair will report directly to the Site Chief and indirectly to the System Chief to optimize and oversee the Q&S activities within the department.TheVice Chairwill provide leadership, strategic direction and partnership with the Administrative Director to oversee the department Quality Improvement (QI) efforts. TheVice Chairwill have 20% protected time for the position. TheVice Chairmay spend their clinical time as a generalist or a subspecialist.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

General Responsibilities


  • Develop specific quality initiatives and safety strategies that align with the hospital and system mission, and are consistent across the system, scoped and customized to the sit- specific OBGYN inpatient and ambulatory environments.
  • Leverage system and site-specific data to identify and direct Q&S priorities and opportunities.
  • Respond to specific events as needed, by engaging in chart reviews, case reviews and clinician interviews, helping to direct debriefings and root cause analyses, activating peer support, and collaborating with Q&S leaders in other departments.
  • Present at relevant department and hospital meetings, prepare consequent reports and policies, and craft and implement appropriate change, including, but not limited to:

    • Regular case reviews in inpatient and outpatient obstetrics and gynecology in consultation with the System Chief and the perinatal safety nurse.
    • Review of RL reports and prepare responses in coordination with the appropriate clinical leadership.
    • Case presentations at quality and safety meetings.
    • Attendance at routine hospital and system quality and safety meetings.
    • Lead monthly Morbidity & Mortality presentations and quarterly QI updates for the OBGYN department.


  • Work with the Site Chief, MFM director, and the ambulatory medical director to organize and implement new processes and technology.
  • Serve as a voice for Q&S issues and efforts at department and hospital meetings, including collaboration with the Quality and Patient Safety department, participation in internal QA presentations, communication of department and hospital Q&S efforts and priorities, and participation in graduate medical education priorities related to Q&S.
  • Serve as a liaison for internal and external Q&S evaluation including regulatory reporting, credentialing site visits, and collaboration with hospital leadership, risk management and our malpractice insurer.
  • Identify and support opportunities for quality improvement, adopting best practices forwarded by professional societies or identified in other systems, and collaborate with relevant department and hospital leaders to advance quality and equity work.
  • Lead and oversee department efforts in credentialing and privileging, including FPPE and OPPE processes.

Program Implementation areas:


  • Assist the System Chief in the development and implementation of the Q&S strategic plan for the department.
  • In partnership with the ambulatory medical director, develop and lead initiatives in improving quality outcomes in the department outpatient spaces.
  • Participation in the BU Improvement Learning Academy.
  • Coordinate onboarding for new clinicians in risk management.
  • Ensure regular risk management training for clinicians and nurses, including FHR tracing education and mandatory annual grand rounds.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:


  • Must possess a doctor of medicine (MD/DO) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certified in OB/GYN.
  • Minimum of 5 years of quality and safety-related experience or adjacent work.
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Massachusetts.
  • Eligible for medical staff membership at BMCAP.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Current clinical practice in obstetrics and gynecology is preferred.

  • Familiarity with standard quality improvement data acquisition and presentation as well as standard data systems to inform clinical operations and improvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute strategy.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical care processes across the care continuum
  • Exceptional communication skills, including strong verbal and written skills
  • Ability to build and manage relationships in a highly complex and changing environment
  • Skilled at partnering with and influencing senior leaders.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and dynamic situations while demonstrating empathy
  • Interpersonal skills that support an open transparent process that invites participation, trust, and effective collaborative relationships with colleagues within and outside Boston Medical Center Health System, particularly with community and state partners.

Compensation range: $330,993 - $380,906

The base salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to clinical FTE, qualifications, experience, education, board certifications, specialty, training, and scope of practice. The above hiring range represents a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Any eligible incentive compensation is not included in the above compensation range and will be discussed during the interview process.
