Under the general direction and supervision of the Network Infrastructure Manager, the Network Administrator II has responsibility for the planning, design, support, installation and maintenance of the corporate communications networks and associated hardware and software. Develops implementation plans, coordinates implementation of communication systems verifying the installation of hardware, software and network management tools. Works at a technical level and maintains effective communication with management, user departments, and other support organizations. This position is responsible for the execution of all operational tasks required to implement a highly scalable and available multi-vendor network infrastructure. Documents all changes that take place on the data communications network and platforms according to the established organizational procedures and standards of Yale New Haven Health System ITS.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Assist in understanding user requirements, development and recommendation of network hardware, software and tools solutions to satisfy business requirements.
  • 2. Provide technical development of network designs, planning, implementation and support.
  • 3. Provide technical leadership and mentor junior technical staff during daily network operation and maintenance activities, capitalizing on teachable moments.
  • 4. Test, evaluate and install new hardware, software and tools as they relate to the corporate network.
  • 5. Deliver customized network designs and solutions by self and by collaborating with peers, vendors and stakeholders
  • 6. Perform monthly performance, capacity and availability analysis of the corporate network environment for all of the network components.
  • 7. Deploy, configure, maintain and monitor active network equipment. Identify, troubleshoot and solve network infrastructure problems.
  • 8. Work collaboratively across technical, customer, and management constituencies to ensure a quality and timely service delivery.
  • 9. Perform network related activities and tasks such as network address assignment, deployment of routing protocols, configuration of authentication and authorization, maintenance of network servers, IP addressing space, VPN gateways, and performance monitoring systems.
  • 10. Perform other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related disciple or technical training and /or related experience equivalent in LAN/WAN networking

EXPERIENCE

At least five (5) years of experience in a network technical services function in a complex distributed network. Experience in a large complex network environment is required. Ability to provide network engineering expertise at a high level.

LICENSURE

Cisco Certified Network Professional certification or equivalent certification(s) and work experience required. CCNP with one specialization preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Experience and knowledge in the following areas: networking operation, troubleshooting, implementation and integration management for LAN, WLAN, MAN, WAN and ISP infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and LAN/WAN protocols as well as a good understanding of network design, performance, and security concepts.
  • Experience implementing enterprise networking equipment including routers, switches, firewalls and VoIP products.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required as well as the ability to resolve multiple complex tasks within a team setting as a leader and contributor.
  • Experience in the planning, testing and implementing network topologies employing IP routing and switching in multi-site networks.
  • Knowledge of data communications and control protocols including: MPLS, BGP, EIGRP, FCoE, QoS and load balancing.
  • Experience implementing a redundant, high availability, vendor-diverse infrastructure topologies in a 24x7x365 environment.
  • Operational understanding of network architecture practices and experience within a corporate data center environment.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and function in a fast paced collaborative team setting.
  • Demonstrated capacity to acquire new skills efficiently and ability to blend technical expertise and business perspective.
  • Able to make logical decisions regarding the best method to accomplish goals or solve a problem and is guided by precedent and general policy in making decisions.
  • Able to coordinate and obtain cooperation of others and to handle controversial issues tactfully.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Work with hand tools requiring dexterity, skillful eye to hand coordination and repeated motion. Must have average to above average eyesight and be able to easily distinguish colors and shading. Must have average to above average hearing required to easily distinguish between various audible alerts emitted from devices. Frequent walking, standing and travel between all YNHHS locations throughout the State CT and Westchester County NY. On call and off hours support required.
