Position Description

The Human Resources Manager acts as a strategic partner to business leaders, aligning human resource initiatives with organizational goals to drive performance and growth. The Human Resources Manager is responsible for providing strategic and hands-on HR support to the General Manager, Plant Manager, salaried staff, and hourly workforce at the Buena Vista, Virginia facility and the Modine Heating remote employees. This role will lead a dedicated HR team within the plant to manage daily HR operations, drive talent initiatives, ensure compliance, and foster a positive and productive work environment. The HR Manager will also play a key role in developing local talent pipelines by building relationships with local educational institutions. This role will report directly to the Human Resources Group Director and dotted line report into the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities

HR Leadership & Plant Support:

  • Serve as the primary HR advisor to the General Manager, Plant Manager and leadership team, providing guidance on workforce planning, employee relations, performance management, and organizational development.
  • Lead and develop the plant HR team to ensure effective HR service delivery to all employees.
  • Ensure HR policies, procedures, and best practices are consistently applied across the facility.
  • Develop and execute human resource strategies that support business objectives.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning:

  • Oversee staffing strategies to meet business and plant production needs, ensuring a steady pipeline of skilled hourly and salaried employees.
  • Build partnerships with local schools, technical colleges, and workforce development programs to create a robust talent pipeline.
  • Develop and implement an apprenticeship program to attract and train future talent for key roles.
  • Lead succession planning and leadership development programs.

HRIS Management & Data Integrity:

  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of employee data in the HRIS system to maintain reliable reporting and analytics.
  • Monitor workforce trends and provide insights to plant leadership to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Monitor human resource metrics and provide insights for continuous improvement.

Employee Relations & Compliance:

  • Manage employee relations, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies while fostering a positive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as company policies and safety regulations. Ensure compliance with global and local employment regulations.
  • Lead investigations and resolution of employee concerns in alignment with company policies.

Training & Development:

  • Support leadership in identifying development opportunities for employees at all levels.
  • Implement training initiatives to improve employee skills, engagement, and retention.
Required Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • 3+ years experience managing HR teams and supporting both salaried and hourly employees.
  • Strong understanding of business operations and strategic human resource practices.
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and drive change.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, compliance, and HR best practices.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and ability to interpret and analyze HR data.
  • Proven ability to handle employee relations matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and drive initiatives forward.
