Overview

The Sterile Processing Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with industry standards, improving process integrity, and monitoring quality outcomes related to instrument reprocessing. This role emphasizes continuous quality improvement, data tracking, and corrective action planning to support patient safety and surgical excellence. The Sterile Processing Quality Specialist is responsible for onboarding new staff, providing ongoing education, and ensuring staff competency in all aspects of instrument reprocessing. This role focuses on staff development, quality support, and continuous training to maintain departmental excellence and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate quality assurance reports and present findings to SPD leadership.

Collaborate with infection prevention and risk management teams to resolve instrument-related issues.

Assist leadership in developing and updating policies, procedures, and workflows that align with best practices.

Develop, implement, and oversee orientation processes for new hires.

Conduct annual skills validations, competencies, and performance checkoffs.

Deliver in-services, workshops, and continuing education sessions tailored to SPD needs.

Support staff in obtaining and maintaining certifications (CRCST, CBSPD)

Collaborate with leadership to identify education gaps and address them proactively.
Conduct audits of decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and storage practices to ensure compliance with AAMI, AORN, CDC, and DNV standards. Monitor quality metrics such as tray errors, missing instruments, bioburden failures, and turnaround times. Investigate and document quality variances, incidents, and near-misses; recommend and implement corrective actions. Stay current on evolving regulatory standards, technologies, and applying updates to department quality processes.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $22.01per hour - $36.76per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
