Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing tactical support to the distribution planning manager (DPM), area transportation manager (ATM) and their regional teams. The distribution process analyst (DPA) will therefore support all bulk scheduling/dispatch planning activities for one of four merchant regions within the RBU North America.
This role will also have a specific focus on resource planning and optimization. The DPA will provide both tactical and strategic support to optimize and continuously improve Messer North America's use of driver and equipment resources. To be successful, this position must work closely with the national operations center, supply chain managers & supply chain analysts, field transportation, sales and customer engineering services (CES) teams.

Principal Responsibilities:
Distribution Resource Planning:
- Plan the demand for drivers and equipment using tactical and strategic resource demand planning (RDP) models; work with field management to ensure driver availability and recruitment levels are met.
- Coordinate with regional and location transportation managers, distribution planners and distribution planning managers to model and establish optimal driver bid boards for locations in assigned region
- Conduct thorough planning analysis to prepare for manpower, equipment and carrier needs to meet summer business demands.
- Ensure peak carriers are properly set up and modelled in Messer's proprietary database and tracked properly daily.
- Ensure all carriers have completed traccess & are trained on using the driver workflow application before starting to make customer deliveries. Messer spends $22,000,000 plus on peak carriers annually.
- Coordinate the movement of Messer and peak carrier resources within and across regional boundaries. (Peak driver resources can vary from 25 to 100 drivers weekly depending on network needs.)
- Provide driver and equipment to support major plant outages, outage costs can range from $100K to $1,500,000, or other crisis situations in day-to-day operations.
Day to Day Operations:
- Provide support of daily distribution operations as directed by, or working with, the regional distribution planning manager and area transport manager.
- Fill in as backup for DPM's in their absence due to vacations or business trips.
- Monitor and provide feedback on the effectiveness of KPI's such as payload and trailer time utilization for the locations in assigned region. Tractor and trailer combinations cost $600,000+.
- Champion using Messer drivers & equipment within region/country before bringing on peak carriers
- Coordinate manpower and equipment shifts in assigned region to meet daily customer demands
- This position may be required to perform the duties of the distribution planner if business needs dictate
- Follow and be held accountable for implementing central transport management (CTM) workflow for distribution process analyst role.
Continuous Improvement:
- Provide subject matter expertise in both scheduling and dispatch tasks between locations and National Scheduling Center.
- Act as an advocate to resolve recurring issues among distribution planning teams, transportation staff and drivers.
- Implement, monitor, and suggest optimizer shifts to help support changes in the weekly network.
- Collaborate with NSC and field distribution in analyzing and understanding the costs associated with not serving customers from their assigned product source (non-standard trips).
- Analyze and collaborate with field management to meet and improve vehicle utilization targets.
- Support the national carrier manager as required in organizing supplemental carrier support for outage and operational needs.
Required Skills:
- Ability to work 6+ weekends per year acting as the Weekend Manager.
- Depending on distribution planning turnover may be required to support the operation by temporarily assuming a planning schedule until new hires are identified & trained.
- Dispatch scheduling, demand planning, & transportation industry experience is a plus.
- Must possess demonstrated experience in forging good working relationships with team members & other functional areas as well as a proven track record in modding change orientation and adaptability.
- Strong analytical & communication skills, along with math aptitude is necessary.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent in logistics, business, or data analysis preferred or in lieu of degree, we require a high school diploma and 2 years of experience in distribution planning, transport, logistics, supply chain, or data analytics.
