Job Description

Puget Sound Energy is seeking a Senior Energy Management Engineer to join our CEM Strategic Planning, Evaluation, and Research team. In this role, you will conduct technical analyses and research that guide program enhancements, quantify measure impacts, and support continuous improvement across our energy efficiency and decarbonization portfolio.



As a senior engineer, you will lead and manage all phases of consultant and internal analytical work related to customer efficiency upgrades-including impact and process evaluations-and champion process improvements across customer projects and programs. Our team is responsible for applying rigorous evaluation, measurement, and verification (EM&V) methods to ensure savings are both reliable and realized in customers' homes and businesses.



Key responsibilities include:



  • Leading negotiations with external consultants and contractors, managing scopes of work, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Supporting technically complex customer and program projects, including the identification and development of new program offerings, budgets, and savings targets.
  • Working across both residential and commercial sectors and across electric, gas, and fuel-switching applications.



You will also help advance PSE's growing decarbonization efforts by supporting pilots, regulatory and legislative analysis, new company initiatives, and non-pipeline and non-wire solutions. Evaluation and pilot work related to flexible loads will also be an expanding focus area.



To inform longterm planning, you will contribute to the development and application of the Conservation Potential Assessment and its integration into the Integrated System Plan as a key demand-side resource.

This job is considered "safety sensitive" as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides technical and project management leadership over evaluation of customer projects to validate sustainable energy savings by performing or overseeing Energy audits of building energy systems including: review of facility energy-usage patterns; detailed analyses of complex efficiency measures including energy use modeling; the applicability and recommendations of measures for achieving greater energy efficiency of measures to customer facilities and operations; final inspection of completed projects; and end-use monitoring of electrical loads with data analysis. Is a subject matter expert in electrical or mechanical aspects of energy efficiency and mentors others in their field of expertise, and a resource for pilot planning and efficiency project evaluations.
  • Provides exceptional customer service by managing customer expectations by clearly communicating status and next steps.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops, and implements market-centric programs and related tariffs to produce sustainable energy savings more effectively by identifying barriers and developing solutions.
  • Implements projects and programs while ensuring compliance of all tariffs and all financial procedures, develops new and revised department policy proposals to increase effectiveness of programs and services.
  • Markets efficiency programs to eligible customers and various organizations.
  • Maintains positive contractor relationship to ensure positive project development and follow-through.
  • Provides technical expertise to others with in the Company, assists in the development of the efficiency supply curves analysis.
  • Oversees the work of and consults with other energy engineers on technical, regulatory policy and financial analyses.
  • Monitors the development and market acceptability of new energy technologies.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field.
  • Substantial experience in energy efficiency project planning, design, specification review, technical field work, project cost estimating (typically achieved after 8 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual's skill acquisition rates can vary significantly.
  • Subject matter expert in electrical or mechanical aspects of energy efficiency
  • Demonstrated project and/or program management skills managing energy efficiency projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external customers

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in aspects of program development, including understanding both internal and external processes necessary to market, sell, deliver, verify and track energy efficiency project activity.
  • Customer service experience
  • Utility industry experience
  • Possession of a Professional Engineering License and CEM or other energy credentials

The pay range for this position is$108,200.00-$180,200.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
