Job Description:

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) at NASA Langley Research Center has an immediate opportunity for an early career Software Engineering. Qualified candidates will be proficient in Python and work alongside NASA scientists and engineers to develop operational airborne and satellite retrieval algorithms for passive polarimeter instruments and active remote sensing lidar instruments.

This exciting work supports the NASA Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) satellite mission and the NASA airborne science program by developing new machine learning based remote sensing algorithms for cloud and aerosol retrievals from lidar and polarimeter data, and by turning research code into autonomous operational software.

This position is an excellent opportunity for an energetic, self-starter with strong programming and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

The hourly compensation rate for this position is $24-$31/hr.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems or Software Engineering, or closely related science/technical field
  • Programming experience in Python and Python tools, developing and implementing algorithms
  • Experience in the use and development of models, numerical analysis, neural network and machine learning techniques
  • Solid understanding and experience following a strict configuration management approach, using version control systems such as Git/GitHub/GitLab
  • Ability to work independently as well as within an integrated team of scientists and engineers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as the selected applicant will contribute to peer-reviewed publications and local to global science conference presentations

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow
  • Experience working with large datasets
