Primary Function

The Paramedic provides advanced emergency medical care, including life-saving interventions, and supports the onsite medical team in managing acute and chronic conditions for detainees. This role requires expertise in emergency response and adherence to detention center standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform advanced emergency procedures such as IV therapy, medication administration, and airway management during critical incidents.
• Respond to emergencies within 4 minutes and stabilize patients for transport to off-site facilities.
• Assist with intake screenings and health assessments for detainees with complex medical needs.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all advanced interventions and patient care activities.
• Participate in quality assurance programs and emergency drills.
• Additional Duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Completion of an accredited Paramedic program.
• Current state Paramedic certification/licensure.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in advanced emergency medical services; correctional healthcare experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with federal privacy standards.
• Ability to perform under pressure in high-stress environments.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills for coordination with medical and security staff.
• Proficiency in documenting medical interventions accurately and promptly.
• Ability to obtain and maintain favorable background investigation.
• Must be proficient in English; able to receive and understand detailed information through oral and written communication.
• Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must be a US citizen or permanent resident, resided in the US for 3 years in the past 5 years.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred or other languages.
• Has undergone a federal investigation at the level of Tier 2 or higher; has been granted favorable suitability/eligibility and has not had a break in service for more than 24 months.
• Detention center experience.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions

• Ability to work in a secure facility environment.
• Must complete provided training on case processing and administrative support tasks.
