What you'll be doing...

Verizon has a challenging opportunity for a Principal Engineer with the ability to architect, design, configure and deploy IP and cellular network designs. Applicants for this position should have extensive experience in 4G and 5G cellular spectrum. Experience in cellular network design as well as cellular network applications is a must. This Principal Engineer will be a member of the team that is responsible for providing complete front-to-end engineering, implementation and support of solutions involving, but not limited to, WAN, LAN, WLAN, Security, Virtual technologies, and cellular technologies.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Architect, design, configure and deploy IP/Cellular network infrastructures that support highly available network services using routers, Ethernet switches, firewalls, VPN technologies, and load balancers.

  • Act as a subject matter expert for design, implementation, migration, and deployment for a multi-vendor environment.

  • Responsible for assisting in identifying future cellular products and services

  • Responsible to understand customer's cellular business needs

  • Develop and document cellular requirements in a standard format

  • Responsible for the selection of network equipment, security controls, and technologies that align all engineering team goals.

  • Providing technical support to project planning team for the design, development and implementation of proposals.

  • Working knowledge of Cellular networks to include but not limited to:

    • Cellular Spectrum for 3G,4G and 5G

    • Cell size & Beam forming

    • Voice over IP/LTE

    • Future cellular technologies

    • Proficient with RF measurement techniques and equipment

  • Tier III/Tier IV technical support. Designing, writing and executing various test plans on commercial and in-house developed network elements using state of the art test tools and hardware.

  • Writing whitepapers, delivering presentations and demonstrations of the solutions/processes in response to customer requirements/interest in new technologies/products in support of customer networks.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret SCI Clearance and pass a Polygraph as a condition of employment.

  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Familiarity with the following vendor equipment: Cisco and Juniper routers, Gigamon appliances, Palo Alto, Juniper and Cisco firewalls, and F5 or other load balancer.

  • Proficiency in communication theory and digital signal processing.

  • Knowledge of RF propagation and interference management.

  • Working knowledge of the 4G/5G PHY and RLC.

  • Experience working in a lab environment performing device testing and analysis.

  • Hands on experience with signal generators and analyzers from KeySight and Rohde & Schwarz.

  • In-depth working knowledge of TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, VPN, and IP routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).

  • Router redundancy protocols, HSRP/VRRP.

  • Seven or more years of network engineering experience.

  • Three or more years of systems integration and test experience.

  • Ability to use of scripting languages to create automated scripts (e.g., Python, shell, bash).

  • Ability to use test automation software.

  • Experience with Linux operating systems.

  • Ability to participate in problem-solving and in the defect resolution process.

  • Ability to work individually and in teams.

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to decipher highly technical data.

  • Ability to multi-task in an ever-changing work environment.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
