Salary: $185,000 - $225,000 + bonus

Location: New York City (On-Site 5 days/week)

About the role: Our client, a fast growing private equity firm that invests in the media and technology space, is seeking a Financial Controller to take ownership of all internal finance and accounting operations while serving as a close partner to the CFO. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a lean, high?impact environment with direct exposure to the investment team, investor relations, and senior leadership. You'll manage both firm?level accounting and the oversight of fund financials prepared by an external administrator.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage day?to?day accounting for the management company and GP entities, including bookkeeping, revenue/expense tracking, and cash management.
  • Coordinate annual audits and tax filings with external accountants.
  • Provide guidance on accounting and tax matters related to international structures and cross?border investments.
  • Partner with the deal team during evaluations to analyze financial risks, tax considerations, and structural implications.
  • Lead annual planning, budgeting, and ongoing forecasting for the firm.
  • Act as the primary liaison to the firm's fund administrator, reviewing deliverables such as capital activity, NAV packages, and quarterly statements to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Support all fund?related financial reporting deadlines, with particular attention to high?priority institutional investors.
  • Drive internal efforts around portfolio valuation and collaborate with investment team members on periodic updates.
  • Interpret and apply partnership agreement terms to ensure proper expense allocations and adherence to governance requirements.
  • Assist with compliance matters, including regulatory filings, monitoring activities, and adherence to internal codes and policies.
  • Support people?related operations such as payroll and benefits administration when needed.
  • Maintain and enhance the firm's operational systems and tools, including CRM, expense management platforms, and Excel?based models.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in private markets (PE or VC) with a strong grounding in accounting fundamentals.
  • Understanding of GAAP, partnership structures, and fund accounting is highly valued.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with tools such as QuickBooks and other accounting/ops platforms.
  • CPA preferred, especially candidates with audit or regulatory experience, though relevant industry background may substitute.
  • Strong process orientation, attention to detail, and ability to improve workflows as the firm scales.
  • Interest or experience in media, entertainment, sports, or related sectors is a plus.
  • Energetic, hands?on, and comfortable operating in a small-team environment where you "set the bar" for financial rigor.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;

The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
