Be You. Duke University's Department of Dermatology is looking for an Associate in Research position to join our team located in Durham, N.C. in Dr. Julia Oh's laboratory. Minimum Requirements: Education: Science related masters degree or terminal degree (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V .M) Other Requirements:Incumbent must be engaged in scientific research that requires a scientific leadership role, and not employed as a research staff member. Occupational Summary Dr. Oh's lab's goal is to understand the complexity of our body's microbial communities to create microbiome therapeutics for human disease. We are a hybrid computational and experimental group using diverse, cutting-edge technologies to probe the human microbiome and its functions with unprecedented resolution. Our methods include genomics (e.g., spatial transcriptomics, single-cell transcriptomics, metagenomics), bioinformatics (including machine learning and artificial intelligence), synthetic biology, organoid technology, CRISPR, molecular biology, and microbiology. This position prioritizes expertise in tissue culture and molecular biology (particularly CRISPRi). Experience in mouse research and microbiology are secondarily preferred. This position would be able to: Conduct a variety of complex and independent investigations in the planning, development and implementation of original experimental procedures and specialized laboratory techniques in the analysis of materials under experimentation. Collect information and data through observation, experimentation and various other methods, to include operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment. Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Confer with principal investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication. Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques. These efforts will be distributed across projects including: developing CRISPRi screening platform for investigating staphylococcal gene function and diversity, constructing gene knockouts in human skin organoids, and examining host-microbiome interactions leveraging organoid and mouse platforms.
