The BioRepository & Precision Pathology Center (BRPC) at Duke University in the Department of Pathology is looking for a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to join research histology team. The (BRPC) is a core resource at Duke responsible for providing tissue samples as well as consenting, histology and other special services to principal investigators inside and outside of Duke. You will be joining the research histology team, following regulatory procedures for the handling of human tissue and other biospecimens, processing and embedding human/animal tissue, de-identifying histology research samples, as well as performing other duties that involve getting research samples to investigators.

In this crucial role, as a member of the histology team, you'll be contributing to multiple research studies by providing high-quality samples, contributing to the development of standard operating procedures, and assuring that samples are handled and shipped according to each specialized protocol. You will help BRPC remain competitive for the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (CHTN) grant, which is a biospecimen resource funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI)

Daily, you will accomplish this important task by checking the IRB to make sure protocols are eligible to receive BRPC services, processing samples according to specific protocol requirements, and working with the BRPC team to provide high-quality biospecimens to researchers inside and outside of Duke. You may be cross trained to collect samples and consent patients depending on the needs of the BRPC.

Minimum Requirements:



  • Completion of an associate's degree
  • Work requires a minimum of two years of relevant research experience. A bachelor's degree may substitute for 2 years required experience.


  • Highly collaborative approach and ability to set clear goals and communicate proactively and clearly with key stakeholders and staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to completing work efficiently and by designated deadlines
  • Strong organizational and communication skills



  • ETHICS - add summary sentence You may assist the Research Program Leader in identifying adverse events, as well as protocol deviations and in determining whether or not they are reportable.
  • DATA - add summary sentences (and so on for each of the 5 subheadings) You will use patient health data from the Duke electronic medical record to identify cohorts, extract relevant medical information, and access patient samples.
  • Science: You may get the opportunity to participate in conferences on behalf of the BRPC, and this would involve you generating abstracts based on literature searches and reviews.
  • Study and Site Management: You will communicate with members of the BRPC to assure that samples are compliant with quality control standards for the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (CHTN) grant and that grant milestones are being met.
  • Leadership: You will work with the research histology team lead and research program leader to train new team members in the role and contribute to training plans. You may also contribute to group workflows and operational design.

  • Anticipated Pay Range:
  • Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 70,019.00 to USD $140,038.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate 's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
