Job Summary


Under the general supervision of the Partial Hospitalization & Intensive Outpatient Programs manager and as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, the primary clinician's duties include, but are not limited to, providing transitional and comprehensive mental health services including case management, group and individual therapy, family psychotherapy, and crisis intervention, to a caseload of adults who are high risk for psychiatric hospitalization. The incumbent will complete psychosocial/functional assessments, mental status examinations, comprehensive treatment plan development, and discharge planning; coordinate treatment among various agencies and advocate for clients to link with needed resources; work with the treatment team and inpatient/outpatient units to facilitate referrals and service; and attend staff meetings and treatment planning meetings.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $46.10 - $79.62 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Master's degree in social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited university
  • For CSW2, registered associate with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in California
  • For CSW3, Licensed with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in the State of California (LCSW or LMFT)
  • Demonstrated ability to provide transitional, comprehensive mental health services, including psychotherapy, crisis intervention, outreach, and case management to a caseload of severely mentally ill adults who are at high risk for psychiatric hospitalization.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete psychosocial/functional assessments, mental status examinations, comprehensive treatment development, and discharge planning.
  • Excellent documentation and clinical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize; work independently, excellent follow-up, work well under pressure and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess suicide and violence risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with colleagues as a member of the treatment team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending successful background clearance.
  • Approximately 1 year of direct patient care experience in psychiatry or mental health setting including group and crisis management skills
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with dialectical behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy groups.
  • Experience with populations diverse in ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation.
  • Experience with acute psychiatric illnesses
  • Recent direct patient care experience with DBT and/or Partial Hospitalization
  • Experience in hospital inpatient psychiatry or PHP/IOP

License/Certification


  • For CSW2, registered associate with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in California
  • For CSW3, Licensed with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in the State of California (LCSW or LMFT)
