NYC DOT is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the Commissioner as Chief of Staff. The successful candidate will serve as a key member of the Commissioner's senior team, responsible for prioritizing and coordinating work efforts, managing and organizing the flow of information, and providing oversight to ensure effective and timely follow-through on various policy, operational, strategic and budget initiatives, as well as working closely with the Commissioner and other members of the leadership team to set strategic direction and participate in critical decision-making for the agency.
The Chief of Staff participates in overall management of the agency alongside the Commissioner, facilitating the Commissioner's daily activities by overseeing the work of the Commissioner's Executive Assistant, the Deputy Chief of Staff and Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff. The selected candidate will collaborate with all the Divisional Chiefs of Staff across the agency to create and maintain synergy. This individual will serve as a liaison to City Hall, preparing high-level memos, presentations, and reports, and responding to inquiries and information requests. This person forms and maintains close relationships with DOT's sister agencies and other external stakeholders.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:
-Working with the Commissioner and Deputy Chief of Staff to develop, implement, and update a strategic vision and priority initiatives for the agency
-Working closely with the Deputy Commissioners and division heads to address issues and provide timely information to the Commissioner, City Hall and other internal and external entities
-Organizing and prioritizing critical issues and required information to facilitate efficient decision making
-Acting as a point of contact between the Commissioner and other stakeholders, providing oversight and guidance to projects of high importance
-Serving as an adviser to the Commissioner and senior management team

CHIEF OF STAFF (DOT) - 95021

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and 4 years of satisfactory experience of a nature to qualify for the duties and responsibilities of the position, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, consultative or executive capacity or supervising personnel performing activities related to the duties of the position; or

2. A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive, consultative or supervisory experience described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

Master's degree in public administration or related field. Must have the ability to juggle multiple requests and issues concurrently from a multitude of requesters, impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills, proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management. Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments.
Effective, versatile and action oriented. Excellent communication skills.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
