Spiritual Care Facilitator
Job Summary The Spiritual Care Facilitator applies extensive knowledge of spiritual care practices and advanced professional concepts to complex care situations by developing programs and respond to spiritual needs of patients and their families, faculty, staff, allied health students (as appropriate) and other health care team members.
Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, and in collaboration with the Medical Monitor, Co-Investigators (Co-I's), Clinical Research Coordinators, and the other session monitors, this uniquely experienced provider will conduct manualized drug-assisted therapy sessions and non-drug sessions according to the study protocol. They will clinically attend to study participants as they undergo experimental drug treatment sessions, which includes completing instruments to assess participant behavior and intervening with verbal support or reaching out to the on-site medical provider in case of a psychiatric or medical emergency. Duties include, but are not limited to: enrollment and safety assessments, study source completion, conducting non-drug study visits meant in preparation for and follow-up from drug administration visits, and the facilitation of drug administration visits according to study protocols and within their clinical scope. Meetings with the Investigators and research team are expected on a case-by-case basis and will depend on the study protocol. The work involves patient research with participants with a range of mental health and other medical disorders, including but not limited to mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders. Participants typically require routine assistance, treatment or a specialized and controlled environment. Primary emphasis on clinical research trials in a medically complicated patient population, with the use of a combination of controlled substances and counseling. Works with a multidisciplinary team to support clinicians with a range of training backgrounds to conduct psychedelic-assisted sessions and treatment protocols in a research setting with a medically complex participant population.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $69,700 - $149,900 (Annual Rate). Department Description San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) is dedicated to providing services that integrate medical, psychiatric, and addiction treatment. SFGH is the largest provider of acute psychiatric care and the only San Francisco provider of psychiatric emergency care.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, or its equivalent in relevant training / experience
- Completion of at least 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education
- Ordination or commissioning by one's faith group to serve as a religious leader and endorsement or official recognition by that faith group to function as a chaplain
- Proven knowledge of principles and practices of delivering spiritual care and short-term counseling to patients and families in a clinical environment. Highly skilled at providing spiritual support and guidance on the issues of death, dying, grief, loss, and disability
- Advanced knowledge of a variety of religious and spiritual traditions, and of giving appropriate spiritual care in a multi-faith clinical setting
- Competent knowledge of the ethical and confidentiality issues involved with clinical chaplaincy
- Highly flexibility and highly adaptability to remain calm, and deal effectively with changing situations involving crises and stress
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with and accept people of diverse beliefs, cultures, ethnicities, ages, and health conditions
- Advanced ability to work independently with patients and families, while also participating in the healthcare team providing coordinated care
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Neshama: The Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC).
- Proven organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills
- In depth knowledge of spiritual assessment models, solid spiritual assessment skills, and the ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, spiritual assessments of patients / families to the health care team
- Demonstrated ability to establish connections with key persons quickly and function well in crisis / trauma situations, demonstrating compassion, flexibility, sensitivity, and command when needed
- Seasoned pastoral judgment and triage skills
License/Certification
- Ordination or commissioning by one's faith group to serve as a religious leader and endorsement or official recognition by that faith group to function as a chaplain
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
