About the Position
The Department of Lab Medicine and Pathology, at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time Researcher 3 position to support human gene replacement mouse modeling research for Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease related dementias. The successful candidate will assist with reproductive technology procedures in mice for creating a variety of mouse models of human disease. A successful candidate will take a new perspective using existing solutions, work independently with minimal guidance, and will come to the position with working knowledge of the field of work.

Responsibilities:
* 35% Lead and conduct mouse embryonic stem cell culture and gene targeting.
* 20% Independently analyze and validate models with expression assays. Includes accurate record keeping of daily experiments of various ongoing projects, genotyping, assays and tests performed as demanded by the projects.
* 20% Utilize DNA cloning techniques for construct design. The employee will analyze data from these experiments, formatting the information for easy communication. Employee synthesizes data from experiments with prior knowledge and information from literature sources to explain results and propose future directions. Data and experimental details are thoroughly recorded and maintained in a lab notebook, for ease of access in manuscript preparation and by other lab members. Results are communicated in regular lab meetings and one-on-one supervisor meetings. Written descriptions of experimental details and results are provided for regulatory documents, manuscripts, and grant preparation when needed.
* 15% Assist with generating chimeric mice from targeted mES cell by injection into blastocysts.
* 5% Train undergraduate and master's students, and rotating/new graduate students. The
employee will introduce new students to typical laboratory techniques and help formulate
action plans for said students to independently complete projects after training. The
Researcher 3 position will act as a repository of institutional laboratory knowledge and a
source of technical information for co-workers.
* 2.5% Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
* 2.5% Follow established biological, chemical, and physical safety procedures

Required Qualifications
* BS/BA in Molecular Biology, Biology or related field and four years of related experience or a combination of education and experience to equal eight years
* Aseptic techniques and cell culture experience.
* Experience in mouse handling and willingness to learn assisted reproductive techniques.
* Hands-on experience with molecular biology procedures (DNA, RNA and Protein isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Westerns)
* Ability to work well within the lab group and with collaborators.

Preferred Qualifications
* Mouse Embryonic Stem Cell (mESC) culture experience.
* Experience with various assisted reproductive techniques in the mouse to include
superovulation, IVF, preparing pseudo pregnant recipients, surgical transfer of embryos and
sperm cryopreservation.
* DNA cloning experience.
* Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
* Excellent problem solving skills

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $31.72 - 37.67/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience
