Description
The Safety Specialist will partner with R.D. Offutt Company to implement and evaluate programs aimed at mitigating risks to workers, property, environment, and the public (e.g., ISO 45001, OSHA, and MSHA). The Safety Specialist will inspect workplaces and enforce adherence to regulations on safety, health, and the environment. The Safety Specialist will collect data on, analyze, and design improvements to, various types of work environments and procedures. Specific Duties Include:
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Occupational Health & Safety Management system,
- Maintain and update the Occupational Health and Safety manual,
- Design and implement workplace programs and procedures that control or prevent risks to team members,
- Provide support with compliance reviews, general risk assessments, safety assessments, as well as internal and external audits,
- Provide ongoing compliance, safety and regulation interpretation, and advice on matters associated with employee safety and other related issues,
- Investigate incidents to determine root cause and prevention,
- Prepare written reports detailing investigative findings,
- Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, programs, equipment, and practices to ensure that they follow safety regulations,
- Collect, compile, and analyze safety data collected through first reports of injury, monthly safety reports, workers compensation reports, and various other reports,
- Assist with the creation of training aligned with the requirements of company policy, legislation, and customer expectations,
- Coordinate and monitor information required by safety verification vendors to ensure compliance with programs and continued good standing with vendors and customers,
- Maintain a variety of safety programs such as safety boot, prescription eyewear, powered industrial truck, crane, and other safety programs,
- Prepare various reports for regulatory agencies, insurance carriers, and others as required,
- Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies and procedures as specified in company manuals and as directed in the employee handbook,
- Conduct self in the presence of customers and community to present a professional image,
- Proactively seek and participate in company-sponsored training to develop and advance knowledge base and skill set,
- Participate in all company communication efforts, including open book meetings, huddles, department meetings, and other related efforts,
- Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service,
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management in a professional and efficient manner.
Job Requirements:
- College degree,
- Relevant work experience required,
- Some OSHA training preferred,
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
- Excellent organizational skills,
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel,
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports,
- Up to 25% travel required,
- Candidates must have valid work authorization and be able to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
