At Builder's FirstSource, the Director of Operational Excellence & Productivity is responsible for driving alignment and execution of key company initiatives, lean processes, and digital programs across assigned regions or divisions. This role ensures initiatives translate into measurable productivity gains, improved customer service, and sustainable competitive advantage. Partnering closely with Region SVPs, Division Presidents, Operations leaders, and FSC teams, this role leads change management, process standardization, and continuous improvement efforts to deliver 3-5% annual productivity improvement while ensuring strong field adoption and execution.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:



  • Drive alignment and execution of enterprise, divisional, and regional initiatives to improve operational efficiency, consistency, customer experience, and competitive advantage.
  • Partner with leadership to deliver sustained productivity improvements of 3-5% annually.
  • Lead change management efforts from concept through full implementation for operational, process, and technology initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to prioritize, sequence, and implement operational, process, compliance, and data initiatives.
  • Translate strategic initiatives into clear, executable field-level operating models, SOPs, and training programs to ensure consistent adoption.
  • Utilize our operating system to drive standardization, best practices, and scalable process improvement across multi-site operations.
  • Lead and participate in lean initiatives, Kaizen events, and continuous improvement efforts to simplify processes and eliminate waste.
  • Develop detailed execution plans, implementation roadmaps, and timelines to deploy initiatives effectively and sustainably.
  • Assist in preparing cost/benefit analyses, budgets, and capital expenditure requirements related to implementation plans.
  • Support the identification, preparation, and readiness of pilot locations and manage pilot execution through full rollout.
  • Support market teams in the development, implementation, and adoption of enterprise tools and digital programs (e.g., DDMs, Design, Dart, and other digital initiatives).
  • Partner with functional leaders to develop training materials for new and existing processes and technologies.
  • Ensure operational tools and digital solutions are embedded into daily workflows and deliver measurable value.
  • Define success metrics, KPIs, and benchmarks for initiatives and track performance against established targets.
  • Publish progress reports and prepare executive-level updates, field communications, and periodic company publications related to initiatives and outcomes.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships and drive collaboration, accountability, and sustained adoption across the organization.
  • Monitor productivity performance within assigned regions or divisions and proactively address risks to achieving targets.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience (10+ years) demonstrating strong leadership, analysis, and learning capability.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a building materials, distribution, manufacturing, or multi-site operational environment.
  • Preferred: 5+ years leading lean process improvement or operational excellence initiatives.
  • Proven experience leading integrated process and technology initiatives across multiple locations.
  • This position requires regular travel and considerable on-site presence at field locations to meet operational demands.


COMPETENCIES



  • Strong understanding of multi-site operations, distribution or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in lean process analysis, continuous improvement, and change management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Strong project and program management capabilities.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience developing KPIs, benchmarks, and performance metrics.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); working knowledge of MS Project and Visio preferred.
  • Six Sigma Lean training and/or Black Belt certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience with industry tools and analytics platforms (e.g., SAP, PowerBI, excel, NxTrend, Online/Trend, or similar) a plus.
  • Ability to travel regularly to support field implementation and change adoption.

In addition to the base wage listed, this position is also eligible to earn an annual bonus subject to changes in plan design and documents and in accordance with applicable law. Eligibility and the amount of the bonus varies based on overall company success, thresholds met and other terms and conditions of the Company's active bonus policy for the respective year.
