Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Human Resources Service Center of Excellence ( SCE) serves approximately 2,000 staff within the Division of Finance and Operations (F&O) and Campus Safety and Risk Management, a combined organization whose annual budget is more than $500 million. The HR SCE has a campus-wide impact through functions that include classification and compensation, salary administration, recruitment, onboarding and separations, benefits and leave administration, policy and procedure administration, employee and management relations, and reporting and data management.
Position Summary
This position provides professional level classification and compensation HR support within the SCE Human Resources unit and is responsible for the accurate and consistent administration of classification and compensation actions for Facilities Services positions. The role applies established HR policies, job evaluation standards, and compensation practices to analyze positions and prepare classification and pay recommendations in accordance with UNC guidelines, internal procedures, and state and federal requirements.

The HR Specialist supports managers and HR partners by providing guidance related to classification standards, career banding, job evaluation processes, and compensation practices. Responsibilities include managing position review requests, conducting internal equity analyses and limited market reviews using established methodologies, and preparing classification and salary recommendations. The position ensures appropriate documentation is maintained and prepares reports to support compliance, consistency, and informed decision-making.

The role works collaboratively with Facilities leadership, budget partners, and HR colleagues to coordinate classification and compensation activities and ensure requests are processed accurately and timely. The HR Specialist participates in projects and process improvement efforts related to classification and compensation administration, contributing to greater efficiency, transparency, and consistency in how Facilities Services positions are evaluated and maintained.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
-Previous experience in classification and compensation.
-Strong oral and written communication skills.
-Strong customer service skills.
-Ability to maintain professionalism and discretion in the course of work duties.
-Ability to make decisions based on policy analysis and interpretation.
