Description
The Clinical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care in the clinic and related administrative duties. This is a full-time position working Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm out of our Edina location. Endocrinology Clinic of Minneapolis is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare. Essential Functions:
- Prepare, stock, and clean exam room
- Room patients and document blood pressure, weight, vitals, and reason for visit
- Maintain an efficient, organized clinical flow
- Review diabetic flow sheet/blood sugars and inquire about current problems/concerns.
- Carefully review all current medications and dosages and updating list. Verify the pharmacy that they are using; if it is a mail order pharmacy add this information to a sticky note on the chart. Ask patient if they need refills.
- Review drug allergies and ask if any new drug allergies.
- When rooming a diabetic patient, ask them to take off their shoes and socks.
- Ask patients when their last eye exam was and request a copy of the documentation.
- Download blood glucose meters, insulin pumps, CGMS monitors on computer and print record for physician.
- Assist with documentation of patient data into chart
- Prep for injections, assist with minor procedures
- Ensure coding requirements are followed during entry of patient information
- If able, act as a prescribing delegate, including processing prior authorizations
- May also assist with any of the following:
- Assist Care Coordinator with patient care services
- Assist with medical supply inventory and ordering
- Screen patient calls and respond to patient in a timely manner. Document all phone messages in the patient's chart
- Communicate with patients telephonically whenever required
- Take refill requests off pharmacy line and call pharmacy when approved. Process electronic refill requests daily.
- Mail letters with results to patients who are not on the patient portal.
- Work with physician(s) to respond to patient messages in timely manner. Document messages and responses appropriately within the patient chart or EMR
- Respond to messages that patients send through the patient portal.
- Fill out DOT/DM forms as medical staff completes, copy for chart and mail.
- Review incoming faxes and process paperwork helping to complete document and giving to physician to complete.
- Maintain medication room, calling pharmacy reps when samples are needed.
- Any and all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); or equivalent experience strongly preferred
- Clinic experience strongly preferred
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology required
- Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments preferred

Working Conditions:
- Frequentlylift up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously throughout the shift.
- Must be able to frequently perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, and reaching.
- Visual acuity to read electronic and paper documents.
- Auditory ability to participate in phone or video calls clearly.
- Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, printer).
