Job Overview
Nova Space Solutions (NSS) is seeking a Technical Writer to join our PLM group within the Engineering Services Department team at NASA John C. Stennis Space Center, Mississippi and NASA Michoud Assembly Facility, Louisiana. The Technical Writer revises or writes standardized material for site-wide standards, work instructions, procedures, reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, specifications, and other related technical administrative publications.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing, writing, and editing material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, specifications, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
- Observe production, developmental and experimental activities plus attend meetings as assigned to document meeting minutes, operating procedures, and details.
- Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
- Maintain records and files of work and revisions. Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
- Assist in laying out material for publication.
- Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other personnel.
- When required, write material regarding work methods and procedures.
- When required, support tenants, customers, engineers in the field.
- Clerical & technical writing duties for critical correspondence, reports, forms, and presentations from draft form to final completion.
- Support tracking and reporting monthly data requirements deliverables (DRD) for COSMIC, including PC07, PC17, FA01, FA02, FA03.
- Support project planning initiatives, particularly with CoF program, including risk matrices, quads, technical writeups, imagery, formatting for presentations or data calls.
- Support design deliverable development through planning, kickoff, design reviews, and final design submission, including scheduling and attending meetings and design reviews.
- Assist in A/E service transmittal review, RFI response, change orders, and data management.
- Utilize NASA and NSS data management systems.
- Attend, host, or coordinate meetings and conference rooms.
- Support purchase requisition documentation for engineering services department, including technical writing and compiling SOWs, estimates, forms and upload and processing through Maximo data management system module.
- Progress and tracking design progress, milestones, due dates, metrics; communicate concerns with project team members; support management data requests.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, or English with an emphasis in technical writing/editing or degree may be substituted by equivalent experience.
- At least five (5) years' experience in a position requiring writing and editing.
- At least two (2) years' experience in a position requiring organizing, coordinating, and publishing large documents.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Word and beginning proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must be comfortable working with several different levels of management within the Business Development Unit, as well as marketing and cost personnel.
- Must be able to work under tight deadlines and in a rapidly changing environment where changes happen quickly, and customers require a quick response.
- Analytical, highly organized, and detailed oriented.
- Ability to set priorities and multi-task.
- Valid state Driver's License with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
- Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- U.S. Citizenship.
Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
- Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire. (Candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire.)
- Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
- Must have, and maintain, a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
- Clean, neat, and professional personal appearance.
- Will ensure quality and completeness of work in a safe and timely manner.
- Knowledge of NASA John C Stennis Space Center and/or government practices is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficient in the use of standard MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and use of various office equipment.
- Familiarity with design, construction, and engineering terminology is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to use resourcefulness in researching various documents and databases is required, as well as gathering various types of information or other resources.
- Ability to coordinate and handle multiple activities.
- Effective writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required.
