Job Requirements

At Fearless, the Intern serves in the capacity of Frontend Engineer Intern on a project supporting the modernization initiative within the Maryland Department of Labor.

The Impact You Will Create:

This role is accountable for contributing to the development and enhancement of reusable web components that power Maryland digital services. Partnering with Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and State stakeholders, this intern delivers measurable frontend improvements that support accessible, scalable, and user-centered digital experiences. The role owns scoped UI tickets and independently delivers high-quality enhancements within an agile environment.

Your Responsibilities in This Role:


  • Build and modify reusable web components.
  • Implement UI enhancements and frontend improvements.
  • Address frontend defects and resolve scoped technical issues.
  • Support accessibility, styling, and usability improvements.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving component documentation.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Own and deliver scoped UI tickets with measurable outcomes.

Qualifications Required
  • Strong foundation in JavaScript.
  • Experience with a JS framework such as Svelte, Vue, or Ember.
  • Experience with modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (widely available features from the past ~3 years).
  • Experience using Git and GitHub (branching, pull requests, code review workflows).
  • Ability to work independently on scoped frontend tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Motivation to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for supporting community-impacting digital services.
  • Internship or entry-level experience in frontend development.
  • Experience contributing to production or live systems preferred.
  • Experience participating in agile environments preferred.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

Compensation at Fearless

Fearless is committed to providing a competitive compensation package that will meet your current and future needs. Our philosophy is aimed at rewarding team member contributions, supporting long-term financial growth and security, and overall well-being.

We believe in paying people fairly, so we've established a compensation model aimed to ensure everyone at Fearless - regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, nationality, or willingness/ability to negotiate - is consistently paid fairly based on alignment to the needs and requirements of the role.

For part-time roles, the salary will be pro-rated based on the full-time equivalent salary ranges.
