Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Security Engineering team is looking for an electrical engineer to join their team! The team is responsible for maintaining physical security systems for the NNL NY and ID based sites respectively. Applicable systems you may work on are access control, alarm and video management systems. NNL Security Engineering strives to maintain the readiness of cognizant systems and engineer for the future.



Typical responsibilities may include:



  • Management of unclassified Windows based domains.
  • Implementation and execution of cyber security policies and network hardening.
  • Obsolescence and vulnerability management of IT and security hardware and software.
  • Researching industry methods and applying innovative solutions.
  • Perform reviews and provide input into Project Scoping Plans, Functional Requirement Documents, and construction project design submittals.
  • Ensure security systems are maintained and functioning correctly for assigned cognizant security systems. Tasks include preventive and corrective maintenance. Teaming with protective force personnel, locksmiths, Instrumentation and control technicians, Facilities and Construction engineering and peers at other NNL locations is necessary for success.
  • Participation in site security system assessments
  • Interpretation of DOE manuals and orders



This position may require supporting the sites during non-standard hours either through phone communications or coming to the work location. A working knowledge of security systems and requirements is desired but not required.


Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or
  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or
  • Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred, but not required.
  • Security or IT system design, installation, and management experience.

    • Access, Alarm, and video management system experience.
    • Cyber security implementation / system hardening.


  • Experience solving technical problems using engineering principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teaming, and communication skills.
  • Experience planning and managing projects.
  • Experience with power systems.
  • Experience with construction drawing sets.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Pay Range
$94,800.00 - $148,200.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
