Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic technology leader to serve as Sr. Director of Technology partnering closely with the CTO to oversee DevOps and IT operations. The ideal candidate brings proven leadership, strategic vision, and a hands-on approach to scaling technology operations in a dynamic, high-growth environment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sr. Director of Technology is a strategic and operationally minded leader responsible for managing all aspects of the company's technology functions. This role oversees DevOps and IT operations, including team management, infrastructure, vendor relationships, and the implementation of technical policies and best practices. The Sr. Director will mentor and develop technology teams, collaborate with cross-functional leaders, and drive initiatives that deliver scalable, secure, and efficient technology solutions aligned with business objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage directly in planning and process mapping sessions with department leaders for high-level projects.
  • Oversee high-level system architecture across DevOps and IT, ensuring continuity and alignment with business goals.
  • Manage relationships with third-party service providers, including recurring meetings, contract renewals, and vendor evaluations.
  • Own budgeting responsibilities for the technology department, including forecasting and cost control.
  • Create and maintain high-level business procedures and ensure their practical implementation across the tech department.
  • Lead the development and enforcement of technical policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with cyber insurance and security audit requirements, aligned with framework such as ISO 27001 and NIST SP 800-53.
  • Provide oversight and support for the company's modern Microsoft 365 environment, including Entra ID, Intune, Exchange, Teams, Purview, and other cloud-based services.
  • Collaborate closely with the CTO to reduce administrative burden and enable deeper involvement in select technical projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural oversight for the company's propriety platform, including CI/CD deployment pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and database operations.
  • Drive best practice in agile product development, code quality and release management across the engineering team.

  • Proficient in developing and enforcing technical policies, procedures, and best practices for compliance, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Budgeting and resource management expertise, including forecasting and cost control.
  • Strategic planning and process improvement, with the ability to map workflows and drive initiatives that enhance efficiency.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST SP 800-53), audit compliance, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on technology leadership, balancing strategic oversight with active project involvement.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals with the ability to review code, evaluate architectural decisions, and guide development teams through complex technical challenges.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Infrastructure & Cloud

  • Strong understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure, including EC2, VPC networking, IAM, CloudWatch, and deployment automation.
  • Hands-on experience managing CI/CD pipelines for production deployments (e.g., GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, or equivalent).
  • Experience with MongoDB Atlas Enterprise, including clustered database management, performance tuning, indexing strategies, and backup/recovery operations

Application Architecture & Engineering

  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale Node.js/Next.js applications, including server-side rendering, API route architecture, and monolith management at scale (our platform has approximately 1,000 page and API routes under active development).
  • Advanced understanding of modern web application architecture, including RESTful API design, state management, authentication/authorization patterns, and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in an agile CI/CD product development lifecycle, including sprint planning, release management, feature flagging, and production monitoring.
  • Hands-on coding experience with the ability to review pull requests, debug production issues, and contribute to architectural decisions with credibility.

IT Operations & Microsoft 365

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 modern cloud services, including Entra ID, Intune, Exchange, Teams, and Purview.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST SP 800-53), audit compliance, and regulatory standards.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement technical policies, procedures, and operational processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in technology leadership roles (Director, VP, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in a software engineering or DevOps environment with a strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams, mentoring staff, and overseeing vendor relationships.
  • Strong project management, budgeting, and organizational skills with the ability to align technology initiatives with business goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Certifications

Leadership & Strategy

  • PMP or CAMP - Project Management Professional certification.
  • ITIL 4 Strategic Leader - IT strategy and operations alignment.
  • CGEIT (Certified in Governance of Enterprise IT) - Enterprise IT governance and value delivery.

Cybersecurity, Governance, & Risk

  • CISSP - Security leadership covering risk management, incident response, technical controls, and Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC).
  • CISM - Information security program management.
  • CRISC - IT risk management and mitigation.

Cloud & Enterprise Architecture

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional), or equivalent Azure or Google Cloud certifications.

DevOps & Engineering

  • Experience with MongoDB Atlas administration at enterprise scale, including sharding, replication, and performance optimization.
  • Prior experience managing or architecting large Next.js or Node.js monolith applications in production.
  • Familiarity with AWS Connect or similar cloud-based contact center platforms.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
  • Contributions to or oversight of open-source projects or internal developer tooling.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Perform repetitive tasks such as typing and clicking.
  • Must be able to lift and move light items up to 20 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, push, pull, lift, and sit.
