SUMMARY:

Reports to the Pathology Manager and is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the laboratory information systems, the hardware, software applications and interfaces as directed. Assists in the coordination of the database build and modifications by the sectional database coordinators. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities Provides input to implement, install and test LIS and LIS interfaces for the Pathology Department and its divisions, ensuring accurate and useful applications according to established policies and standards of care. Ensures that established departmental policies and procedures are utilized and enforced in subordinate area of responsibility. Formulates, recommends, implements and administers changes in policies and procedures for subordinate laboratory section(s). Develops policy and procedure manuals for assigned sections. Maintains regular contact with other departmental laboratory sections, and other Hospital departments when communicating test results, explaining procedures, enhancing interface, etc. May serve on inter and intradepartmental committees representing services provided by the Department of Pathology. Ensures compliance with various accrediting regulations (CAP, JCAHO) and safety standards. Assists on special and research projects as requested. Consults with Pathology database Coordinators, physicians, and ISD across the enterprise, and other healthcare team members to facilitate a smooth operation of the computerized system. Originates training plans and develops educational materials specific to the LIS and users. Conducts and evaluates educational sessions to ensure proper use of information systems. Provides and supervises continuous support for system users and maintains the LIS. Oversees the team of database coordinators to ensure accurate build and installation of LIS. Integrates TQM principles into all aspects of job performance. Implements quality initiatives into job performance as required. Provides functional supervision of staff assigned on LIS projects. Oversee projects and provides technical supervision and training of assigned personnel. Estimates, plans and schedules personnel and other resources required to implement application projects. Develops test plans and data and testing procedures for application software and prevent installation of applications, which have not been certified by the user. Investigates and resolves sources of error in application software. Assists in developing policies and procedures for contingency and disaster planning and monitor compliance. Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge by attending seminars and reading professional literature. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Bachelor 's Degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology or related area with national certification (or eligible) in medical laboratory science or medical technology by ASCP or equivalent Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interface effectively with all levels of personnel within the Hospital and with various external sources, including communicating various services available and developing and maintaining effective customer relations. Supervisory skills effectively direct and evaluate subordinate staff. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. EXPERIENCE: Three to five years of progressively more responsible work experience required, including two to three years of lead or supervisory experience in a laboratory environment. Three to five years ' experience with LIS installations and/or operations. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work environment involves every day risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions.
