As a team member of the Safety & Mission Assurance department this role will be supporting the NASA Mission and Technical Integration Contract (MTIC) as a Technical Writer for various forums and review panels. The MTIC contract provides technical support to the International Space Station, Commercial Crew, Orion, and Gateway programs. Responsibilities:
- Participate in technical meetings and develop meeting minutes and action items.
- Development of documentation in a high quality and timely manner.
- Work in a dynamic setting while operating conference room equipment.
- Track documentation generation and approval progression utilizing computer system.
- Develop and maintain metrics and reports.
- Consolidate and organize data to meet configuration control and records retention requirements.
- Coordinate, maintain, and adhere to schedules.
- Operate computer and conference room audio/visual communication devices.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have interest in science and technology and ability to assimilate written and conversational information into documentation.
- Must have strong listening skills that enable candidate to assimilate and summarize technical discussions from within a real-time meeting environment.
- Must have strong capability to independently operate conference room computer and audio/visual equipment.
- Excellent technical writing skills a must. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, & Outlook); PC Laptop computers.
- Strong capability to support the facilitation of meetings utilizing the internet and working with conference room equipment.
- Strong ability to independently solve real time conference room audio communication problems.
- High-level of proficiency in written and oral communication with peers, management, and customers.
- Must possess the ability to multi-task and work well with a variety of disciplines, i.e. other technical writers, administrators, engineers, panel members, panel chairs, management, etc.
- Demonstrated self-initiative to identify problem areas and implement solutions on a task level. Able to multi-task and prioritize work to meet critical schedule requirements in a dynamic environment.
- Strong organization, time management, attention to detail and excellent follow-through skills. Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
- May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
- Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
- Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
- Utilize standard office equipment (PC, TEAMS, Web-EX, conference room projector, etc.)
- Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
- Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
- Must be able to work independently and in a team atmosphere.
- Professional behavior to promote teamwork and cooperation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with technical documentation and/or management systems
- Technical Writing experience and certification is a plus
- Space Craft or ISS experience supporting the safety panel processes is desired
- Process Improvement knowledge and/or experience is a plus
- Working knowledge of safety requirements is a plus
- Ability to periodically present information at meetings and technical forums is desired
Education and Relevant Work Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in English, Creative Writing, Journalism or similar or equivalent 5 years of technical/creative writing, journalism, documentation management or communication experience.
