Learn more about the UC Office of the President DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The Systemwide Office of Civil Rights (SOCR) is composed of the Systemwide Title IX Office, Systemwide Anti-Discrimination Office, and Systemwide Disability Rights Office. SOCR provides systemwide guidance and support on issues related to protecting civil rights at UC's 10 campuses, medical centers, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and the Office of the President. We ensure uniform interpretation of the following two comprehensive systemwide policies.
SOCR also provides leadership, training, education, and investigative support for UC offices responsible for protecting all civil rights. Learn more:
POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to either the Systemwide Title IX Director, Systemwide Anti-Discrimination Director, or Systemwide Disability Rights Director, the Intern uses skills as a budding professional to plan, manage, and administer SOCR's special projects. In addition to providing day-to-day administrative support, this role collaborates with department and campus partners to plan and coordinate systemwide projects and ensure they run smoothly. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Spearheads communication and coordination with stakeholders regarding projects. The SOCR Summer Intern is a limited-term (approximately 10 - 12 weeks), paid internship position designed for current and recently graduated undergraduate or graduate students interested in civil rights compliance, higher education policy, law, public administration, or related fields. SOCR will consider current law students interested in higher education policy. The Intern will be assigned to one of three tracks:
While assignments may vary by track, interns will gain exposure to systemwide policy implementation, training development, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and civil rights compliance operations in a large public university system. This position reports to a designated SOCR manager and works closely with Systemwide Title IX Officers (TIXOs), Local Implementation Officers (LIOs), investigators, training staff, and policy professionals.
