Summary:

The Food & Nutrition Steward supports hospital food service operations by maintaining safe, organized, and sanitary storage areas; managing inventory flow; and ensuring accurate fulfillment and delivery of food and supply orders throughout the facility. This role plays a critical part in food safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient department operations while supporting patient care and clinical services.

Responsibilities:

Inventory, Storage, and Organization

*Receive, inspect, and properly store all food and supply deliveries according to department standards and food safety regulations

*Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper rotation (FIFO) of storerooms, walk-in coolers, and freezers

*Ensure all products are labeled, dated, and stored at appropriate temperatures

*Identify and report damaged, expired, or compromised products

Food Safety and Compliance

*Record, monitor, and document temperatures for refrigeration, freezers, and storage areas

*Maintain accurate and complete temperature logs in compliance with hospital, state, and regulatory requirements

*Follow all infection control, sanitation, and safety procedures

Order Processing and Distribution

*Download, review, and process supply and food orders accurately

*Fulfill floor stock requests and deliver supplies to patient care units and department locations

*Answer phone calls and respond to departmental requests in a professional and timely manner

*Identify, investigate, and correct order discrepancies

Transportation and Reconciliation

*Drive to designated distribution centers or vendors to retrieve products as needed

*Reconcile damaged or returned items and complete required documentation

General Department Support

*Assist with utility duties, including cleaning, trash removal, and dish room support as needed

*Run carts and transport food, supplies, or equipment throughout the facility

*Perform other reasonable duties within the Food and Nutrition Services Department as assigned

Preferences:

* Previous experience in hospital food service, warehouse, or inventory management

* Knowledge of food safety practices and FIFO inventory systems

    * Experience working in a healthcare or regulated environment

    Licensure/Certification Requirements:
    Professional Experience Requirements:
    * One year of experience preferred. Requires ability to learn computer skills.
    Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
    * Language Skills: Ability to read. Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one - or two-step instructions. Deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
