This intern within the Hardware Development team will play a hands-on, learning-focused role supporting the development, testing and deployment of new hardware products. This internship is designed to provide exposure to the hardware development and product qualification and launch process. Duties and Responsibilities
Support the Hardware Engineering team with handson testing, evaluation, and validation of components and devices used in Itron's energy and water management solutions. Assist in assembling, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware prototypes in a collaborative lab environment. Perform data collection and documentation to support engineering decisions, demonstrating accountability and attention to detail. Conduct rootcause analysis for hardware issues and recommend innovative solutions aligned with customercentric product expectations. Work crossfunctionally with engineering peers, technicians, and program teams to support agile development cycles. Maintain accurate records of test procedures, results, and device performance to ensure transparency and authenticity across teams. Contribute to continuous improvement projects that enhance product reliability, manufacturability, and overall customer experience.
Required Skills & Experience
Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. Strong problemsolving skills with a mindset of curiosity, accountability, and agility. Clear written and verbal communication skills to support documentation and collaborative work. Ability to work effectively in a teamfocused, innovative environment while delivering accurate and reliable results.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Foundational understanding of electronics principles (circuits, sensors, microcontrollers, etc.) or RF. Ability to use basic lab equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies. Experience with PCB or CAD design tools. Exposure to embedded systems, firmware debugging, or hardware-software integration. Handson project experience involving prototyping, soldering, or hardware debugging. Interest in energy, utilities, smart devices, or IoT technologies, demonstrating a customercentric and futurefocused engineering mindset.
Liberty Lake, hourly compensation range: state minimum wage, up to $44.23/hr.
