JOB SUMMARY Reporting to both Dean of Business and Social Services and Dean of Student Affairs and Activities at Foothill College, The Pride Center Faculty Coordinator provides a full range of in-person referral services, community engagement, and culturally relevant programming that advances the success, well-being, and sense of belonging of LGBTQIA+ students at Foothill College. The coordinator develops and sustains equity-minded services, professional development, trainings, and workshops that honor intersectional identities across LGBTQIA+ communities, including but not limited to queer and trans students of color, DACAmented/Undocumented students, first-generation students, and students experiencing cultural or identity-based trauma. This role works collaboratively across campus divisions and with local community partners to promote inclusive practices, strengthen student retention, and foster a campus climate where LGBTQIA+ students feel seen, supported, and empowered. In addition, this position is approximately 50% as an active faculty member in the Sociology department. This role includes required participation in the department and Division meetings and initiatives. The faculty member will lead the curriculum development of LQBTQ+ related Sociology courses and teach in person, hybrid, and online courses in the Sociology Department. Duties and Responsibilities Include: Instruction and Training Duties and Responsibilities (approximately 50% annually) Teach courses as part of workload and provide workshops to students, staff, faculty, and administrators, and perform standard duties expected of all faculty, which include development and evaluation of LGBTQIA+ curricula in the Sociology program, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of a faculty member. Faculty can also serve on District and college committees and participate in co-curricular activities. Non-Instruction Duties and Responsibilities (approximately 50% annually) Operating from a strong equity lens, the Faculty Coordinator of the Pride Center will conduct referral intakes, conduct workshops, provide general counsel to enrolled and prospective students at Foothill College, and coordinate the Pride Center with the goal of creating a sense of belonging for all. Provide in-service to faculty, staff, and administrators regarding student needs within LGBTQIA+ communities, but not limited to, creating a sense of belonging, effective outreach and programming, and culturally relevant approaches to basic needs and wellness services. Further the college's Strategic Equity Plan of global, cultural, and social awareness through the praxis of equity, social justice, and multicultural education. Support social justice, equity, inclusion, and awareness in staffing, programming, and service delivery for LGBTQIA+ students, including queer and trans students of color. Oversee daily operations of the Pride Center, including supervising and training student employees, and developing culturally relevant, LGBTQIA+-affirming programs, workshops, and events that foster student belonging, wellness, and community engagement. Collaborate with Basic Needs, Mental Health & Wellness, and Student Affairs on strategies and activities that foster LGBTQIA+ student wellness and campus safety, including outreach, prevention events, and identity-affirming programming. Provide case management with emphasis on supporting LGBTQIA+ students through referrals to campus and community resources, ensuring access to basic needs, mental health support, safety resources, and continuity of care. Participate in Pride Center and Sociology program reviews, data collection, and Student Learning Outcome (SLO) development and evaluation processes. Participate in the development of Pride Center and Sociology goals, objectives, programming plans, and assessment of resource needs. Participate in the development of department goals, objectives, and assessment of resource needs. Collaborate with colleagues to develop informational and educational materials such as brochures, newsletters, digital content, and resource guides that reflect LGBTQIA+-affirming practices. Be knowledgeable of legislation, policies, codes, and procedures related to LGBTQIA+ students, Title IX, gender identity and expression, student privacy, and inclusive practices. Work in close collaboration with the Equity Office, Counseling division, and other Student Services programs to align LGBTQIA+ support efforts and strengthen campus-wide inclusion. Develop and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, student clubs, and local LGBTQIA+ community organizations to implement intersectional, equity-minded education and wellness strategies that ensure seamless services and support for students. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff. Master's degree in Sociology OR bachelor's degree in Sociology AND master's degree in Anthropology, any Ethnic Studies, Social Work, or Psychology, OR the equivalent. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We encourage individuals to apply for the position even if they do not meet all the qualifications below: Possession of a Masters in Social Work (MSW) Experience teaching at the college level in a range of modalities (in person and online). Currency and depth of knowledge in subject matter and pedagogy. Knowledge, training, and experience with online pedagogy and teaching with technology. Recent professional experience working with LGBTQIA+ students, including queer and trans students of color, and an understanding of how historical exclusion and marginalization of these communities within higher education shape student participation, belonging, and outcomes. Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of how discrimination, LGBTQIA+ bias, transphobia, racial trauma, stigma, cultural mistrust, and feelings of isolation impact the mental health and well-being of LGBTQIA+ students, particularly those with intersecting identities across diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, disability, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds. Experience addressing systemic barriers and improving access to affirming healthcare, as well as leading stigma-reduction efforts through outreach, social media, and peer-ambassador programming, with emphasis on supporting LGBTQIA+ students-particularly queer and trans BIPOC, DACAmented/Undocumented, and Veteran populations-and those impacted by identity-based and collective trauma. Experience in assisting students with securing resources for mental health wellness, basic needs and referral to additional student support services areas including Admissions, Financial Aid, tutoring services, etc. Ability to demonstrate equity-minded crisis management and consultation skills. Ability to develop outreach and prevention services that promote psychological wellness. Ability to present workshops and in-service trainings. Ability to initiate innovative service delivery strategies. Ability to demonstrate planning and organizational skills. WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: Indoor, office environment.
