This position has the responsibility for the development of a strategic vision and management of categories consisting of high profile & high complexity materials, and supplies. Responsibilities include developing & executing strategic sourcing strategies, monitoring market movements and negotiating agreements, working with a broad base of business groups, and resolving issues with suppliers. This position also works closely with Sourcing Director supporting more strategic, complex, or specialized categories.

This role is not remote/hybrid. This role will report to Sherwin-Williams Morikis Global Technology Center located at 6745 Miller Road, Brecksville, OH 44141.

  • Identify challenges & opportunities within category by overseeing the gathering, analysis, and subsequent interpretation of quantitative and qualitative information. Then subsequently choosing the best course of action by establishing clear decision criteria, generating and evaluating alternatives, and making timely decisions.
  • Ensure that both internal and external client perspectives are a driving force behind strategic priorities, business decisions, organizational processes and individual activities.
  • Use effective communication and involvement to gain agreement and commitment to ideas and plans to support specific work outcomes.
  • Establish action plans for self, direct reports, & others to complete work efficiently by setting priorities, establishing timelines and leveraging resources.
  • Lead organizational strategies through others by developing, leading, & working within cross functional teams to drive change associated with developed category strategies and implementation of cost savings projects & initiatives.
  • Develop and implement domestic and/or global category sourcing strategies and plans for assigned categories consistent with global category team strategies and all applicable Business Unit operating plans and objectives. Oversee the development of sourcing strategies for any direct reports as necessary.
  • Develop, issue and analyze RFQ's for assigned categories or those areas directed by Purchasing Director. Oversee the RFQ process for categories assigned to any direct reports as necessary.
  • Communicate to Plants and Business Units - Sourcing strategies, pricing, and market conditions impacting material supply.
  • Support Marketing strategies and requirements.
  • Identify and develop new suppliers.
  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of materials
  • Develop and communicate material demand forecasts to suppliers.
  • Negotiate and implement sourcing agreements/contracts which help to increase supply assurance and improve Sherwin-Williams' competitive position in the market.
  • Forecast pricing on assigned categories to provide top management with key information for determining future finished goods pricing and budgetary impacts. Oversee this forecasting process for categories assigned to any direct reports as necessary.
  • Control payment terms, discounts, consignment programs for areas of responsibility Globally and oversee this process for any direct reports as necessary.
  • Management of established pricing (verification, resolution of discrepancies, etc.).
  • Negotiate and resolve any claims or disputes concerning a supplier's performance.
  • Develop written short to long-term category strategies for assigned categories and oversee the development and implementation of these strategies for any direct reports as necessary.
  • Develop and implement cost savings projects and initiatives.
  • Work closely with Technical, Supply Chain, Operations, and Marketing to ensure strategy alignment with total cost and assured supply objectives; Work closely with suppliers to ensure that appropriate resources, data and specification information is made available to enable timely product qualifications.
  • Ensure compliance with department policies, procedures and applicable laws, rules and regulations.

Subordinate Activities
* Position may supervise additional staff to include hiring, training & development, setting & evaluating performance, and providing compensation recommendations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
  • Must have a bachelors degree or higher
  • Must have at least six (6) years of work experience in Sourcing, Marketing, Technical, Operations, and Supply Chain
  • Must have at least one (1) year of experience using Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and/or Outlook)
  • Must have working experience with negotiating & monitoring contracts

Preferred Qualification:

  • Have at least eight (8) years of work experience in Sourcing, Marketing, Technical, Operations, and Supply Chain
  • Have working experience with record managing moderately complex materials & supplies
  • Have working experience in increasing responsibility with strong performance and focus on cost savings and security of supply
