The Account Manager is responsible for driving profitable sales growth within an assigned territory, managing the entire sales process for both existing and new Airgas customers. This includes developing sales and profitability for a defined set of accounts. A key part of the role is selling Airgas's diverse product range, which encompasses industrial, medical, and specialty gases, equipment, welding products, tools, hardware, and safety items. Furthermore, Account Managers must maintain consistent communication with District, Branch, Sales, and Plant Managers to guarantee comprehensive customer service and satisfaction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Engagement and Solution Delivery:

  • Customer Needs Assessment: Proactively engage with clients to conduct thorough needs assessments, gaining deep insights into their specific requirements and objectives.

  • Customized Solutions: Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to design and deliver tailored solutions that effectively align with client needs and support overall enterprise goals.

  • Contract Negotiation: Lead contract negotiations to establish favorable terms and conditions, fostering the development of sustainable, long-term partnerships.

Sales Growth and Relationship Management:

  • Upselling and Cross-selling: Strategically identify and pursue opportunities for upselling and cross-selling within the existing account base to maximize revenue and increase market share.

  • Account Oversight and Service: Serve as the primary point of contact for all accounts, ensuring exceptional customer service by promptly addressing all inquiries and concerns.

  • Sales Strategy and Execution: Develop and implement effective sales plans, adhering to Airgas' directives and guidelines, to service current accounts, secure orders, and successfully acquire new business. Actively qualify and pursue high-potential sales leads.

  • Consultative Relationship Building: Cultivate strong customer relationships by developing a comprehensive understanding of the customer's business and establishing a trusted consultative partnership.

  • Value Proposition: Effectively engage customers by articulating the Airgas value proposition and demonstrating its direct link to the customer's business priorities.

Sales Administration and Reporting:

  • Proposal Generation: Prepare detailed sales proposals, which include price quotes, established credit terms, and estimated delivery dates, utilizing knowledge of Airgas' production, logistics, and delivery schedules.

  • Market and Product Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, the current Airgas product portfolio, and monitor competitor activities, gathering relevant intelligence on pricing, products, new releases, delivery logistics, and merchandising.

  • Internal Collaboration: Partner closely with internal resources to achieve growth objectives. Maintain clear and consistent communication with internal departments regarding customer successes, opportunities, new developments, and other account-specific information.

  • Reporting: Accurately maintain and submit required sales reports, including daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly/annual territory analyses, through the SAP system as directed by the District Manager.

  • Financial Management: Actively review and manage the Accounts Receivable balances for existing customers to minimize Airgas' working capital investment and mitigate financial risk.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of prior commercial business-to-business (B2B) outside sales experience, with a proven history of success in solution-selling concepts and managing a defined sales territory.

  • Demonstrated success utilizing a consultative sales approach to deliver multiple layers of value to customers, resulting in a successful mix of sales solutions and products.

  • Deep knowledge of customer's business, current macro/microeconomic and industry trends, and the ability to identify potential new business opportunities.

  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills, as well as presentation skills utilizing current technology.

  • Self-starter; self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency; capable of working and succeeding independently.

Additional Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and minimum liability insurance as required by the state of vehicle registration.

  • Familiarity with industrial and specialty gases, industrial gas / welding supply sales a plus.
