Responsibilities

Peraton is hiring a Software Architect to work in a hybrid capacity both on-site and limited remote in Santa Clara, CA or Reston, VA.

Join Peraton's innovative team and lead the architectural modernization of the Theater Mission Planning Center (TMPC) while ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of today's operational system. TMPC is the mission planning and execution component of the Tomahawk Weapon System (TWS).

As a Software Architect, you will define the architecture and guide the transformation of a mission-critical system into a microservices-based capability. You will provide technical leadership across the engineering team, mentor developers, and drive adoption of modern engineering practices including AI-assisted development and secure DevSecOps pipelines.

What you'll do:

As a Software Architect, you will serve as the technical leader responsible for system architecture, modernization strategy, and architectural decision-making across the full life-cycle of the platform. In this role, you will:

Modernization Leadership

    Define and lead the architectural evolution of the legacy system into a scalable microservices-based architecture.
  • Establish design patterns, service boundaries, and integration strategies across the platform.
  • Guide engineering teams during modernization while maintaining operational continuity of the current system.

Full-Stack Architecture & Development

  • Architect modern, high-performance user interfaces using Angular.
  • Define scalable and secure back-end service architectures using .NET Core, C#, and PostgreSQL.
  • Guide engineering teams in implementing architecture patterns and best practices across the full stack.

AI-Enabled Development & Automation

  • Promote the use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., intelligent code generation, automated test creation, static analysis, and secure code review tools) to improve productivity and code quality.
  • Guide responsible AI usage to ensure alignment with DoD cybersecurity and data governance standards.

System Architecture & Technical Governance

  • Define technical standards and architectural guidelines for the development team.
  • Lead architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
  • Ensure alignment with Navy and DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Conduct architectural trade studies and technology evaluations.

DevSecOps & Infrastructure Leadership

  • Define architecture and standards for CI/CD pipelines and automated build systems.
  • Guide infrastructure automation using Ansible and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Define secure containerization and orchestration strategies using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Podman.

Performance, Scalability & Security Engineering

  • Ensure architecture supports high availability, performance, and scalability.
  • Guide database architecture, tuning, and performance optimization.
  • Establish secure coding and system hardening practices aligned with DoD STIGs and RMF requirements.

Agile Technical Leadership

  • Operate within a SAFe Agile environment as the technical leader across teams.
  • Mentor engineers and provide architectural guidance.
  • Coordinate with system engineers, cybersecurity professionals, and government stakeholders to ensure alignment with mission requirements.

System Sustainment & Reliability

  • Provide architectural oversight for troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and complex issue resolution.
  • Ensure system availability, mission readiness, and long-term maintainability.


Qualifications

What you'll need:

  • Education: 12 years with BS/BA, 10 years with MS, 7 years with PhD or 16 years of applicable experience in lieu of a degree
  • Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance
  • Extensive experience with object-oriented programming (C#, .NET Core preferred)
  • Strong experience with modern front-end frameworks (Angular preferred)
  • Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-level applications in secure environments
  • Deep understanding of micro-services architectures, distributed systems, RESTful API design, and service orchestration
  • Experience designing systems deployed in containerized environments
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, including schema design, performance optimization, and query tuning
  • Experience defining or implementing CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code practices and secure deployment strategies
  • Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools, automated testing frameworks, and intelligent code analysis platforms to improve software quality and productivity
  • Strong proficiency with Windows and Linux development environments

Desired Skills:

  • Experience implementing AI/ML components in production systems
  • Familiarity with RMF, STIG compliance, and secure system accreditation processes
  • Experience with Kubernetes orchestration in secure environments
  • Experience with Selenium or other automated testing frameworks
  • SAFe Agile certification or experience serving as a Technical Lead within SAFe

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
