Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is hiring a Procurement & Property Student Assistant within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO).

The student will work as part of the Procurement and Property team to assist with purchasing high volume, low risk PCard and Purchase Orders including lab and office supplies, chemicals, tools, equipment, and off-site equipment maintenance and support services. This position will be responsible for understanding the Service Center's key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics, and contributes to the fulfillment of projects and functional area objectives, as well as the administration of the subcontracts post award.

What you will learn:

  • 75%: In accordance with Lab Policies and Guidelines, assist with purchasing low risk goods and services using the appropriate purchasing methodology, including:
    • Documenting and maintaining all PCard and Purchase Orders
    • Providing customer service to internal and external stakeholders
    • Reconciling and closing out orders
  • 25%: Proactively coordinate with subcontract administrators in the Procurement department to complete any tasks such as:
    • Verifying vendor's enrollment statuses
    • Obtaining export compliance classification number for goods purchases
    • Database management

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be majoring in an undergraduate program, enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university. Proof of enrollment is required.
  • The ideal candidate must have completed at least their second year of college and have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Hands-on knowledge in using Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat software.
  • Must be organized, resourceful, detail-oriented, a quick learner, and a self-starter.

Preferred majors, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Undergraduate majoring in Business Administration, Finance, Computer Sciences, Math, Data Science, Supply Chain, Economics or Accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity using online tools such as Google Applications (Gmail, Drive, Calendar).
  • Familiarity with Oracle-PeopleSoft or equivalent.

Additional information:

  • Appointment type: This is a variable 1 year, student assistant appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
  • Salary range: The hourly range for this position is $21.40 - $25.18. Pay will be dependent on the current level of education.
  • Work authorization: Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Work modality: Work may be performed on-site, hybrid, or full-time telework. Work must be performed within the United States. A REAL ID or other acceptable form of identification is required to access Berkeley Lab sites (for more information click here).
