The Opportunity

Our Corrosion Services team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence to help monitor, control and mitigate natural gas pipeline corrosion throughout the region. We are seeking an experienced Corrosion Specialist who will provide technical support to help assure compliance with the corporate corrosion control program and maintain the integrity of the piping system. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who is highly organized, computer proficient, and possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills. The individual will be expected to perform all aspects of their work safely and contribute to our leading safety culture.

What you'll do

  • Provide technical support to operations management and corrosion personnel
  • Troubleshoot cathodic protection and coating systems primarily for large diameter, high pressure pipelines and facilities
  • Identify and mitigate interference issues
  • Provide technical expertise to assess and resolve design, operating and maintenance issues related to corrosion control
  • Perform and assist corrosion technicians with field testing as required
  • Provide qualification training (OQ) of field personnel who perform corrosion control activities
  • Serve as liaison between operations, technical services and 3rd party contractors
  • Provide technical support to manage contractors, consultants and vendors to implement specific corrosion control programs, to include developing specifications and project scope documents for corrosion surveys and cathodic protection system installations
  • Provide technical support services to the operations and engineering groups in area of corrosion control, cathodic protection system design and atmospheric rehabilitation
  • Engage in management of Company corrosion prevention Standards, Procedures and Specifications
  • Maintain and audit corrosion databases and records to assure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Represent the Company during regulatory inspections of corrosion control program
  • Manage rectifier remote monitoring system operation and maintenance
  • Lead corrosion capital and maintenance project identification and initiation process
  • Identify and develop corrosion prevention projects within Company computer project management applications and budgetary cycles to maintain our asset integrity
  • Provide corrosion control technical support and review for pipeline and facility capital projects
  • Design cathodic protection systems
  • Support corrosion projects, which may include identification, cost estimation, initiation, site evaluation, scoping and design, detailed reviews, installation, inspection, commissioning, and documentation
  • Corrosion control support for Company engineering processes and projects, to include: DA work, field inspections and testing, diagnostic testing, corrosion measurement, root cause analysis, pipeline casing evaluations, corrosion control surveys (CIS, DCVG, PCM, etc.), ILI data analysis and PHMSA special permit compliance
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 6 or more years of related experience
  • AMPP (NACE) Cathodic Protection Technician Certification (CP2)
  • Knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192 and related industry standards
  • In-depth experience in corrosion control and corrosion control procedures, to include working knowledge of chemistry, electricity, physics, metallurgy, and coating as they pertain to pipeline corrosion control

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering or technical degree
  • Experience in the areas of project planning and implementation
  • Knowledge of pipeline remediation and repair, pressure reductions, coating systems and corrosion control on pipelines, plants and meter stations
  • AMPP (NACE) Cathodic Protection Technologist Certification (CP3); additional AMPP (NACE) training or certifications

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and extended workdays and/or workweeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
