Job Summary

The Nurse Wellness Coach support and seek to improve staff well-being by advising them on how to create a healthy work-life balance, make appropriate lifestyle changes that improve mental, physical, and emotional health, and aid in staff self-awareness and self-preservation. Reports to Director of Professional Practice and Wellbeing. No direct reports.

Requirements

  • American Heart Association BLS Certification and ACLS Certification
  • Bachelors of Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Preferred: Certification from a health coach organization

Job Responsibilities

  • Seek to improve staff well-being by advising them on how to create a healthy work-life balance, make appropriate lifestyle changes that improve mental, physical, and emotional health, and aid in staff self-awareness and self-preservation.
  • Help staff to identify unhealthy risk factors, assist with establishing individual goals and motivate/ coach staff to change their lifestyle behaviors, promoting positive and healthy living.
  • Build and maintain rapport with nursing and ancillary staff, coaching them to improved health through the development of established goals and education on self- management strategies.
  • Coach, mentor, and empower nursing staff and other members of the health care team to be their best self, both personally and professionally.
  • Consider the full scope of staff's well-being (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, environmental, and financial)- provide resources that will help promote healthy ways of managing areas of noted opportunity.
  • Employ motivational Interviewing and other behavior change communication techniques with goal of improving staff wellness.
  • Respond to acute crises within the hospital, providing resources, coaching, and support to staff directly involved in events.
  • Ensure healthy staff recovery after internal and external crisis.
  • Respond to real time crisis within the hospital, assessing staff's mental and emotional wellbeing; providing support and needed resources for healthy staff recovery.
  • Ensure staff have access to resources to mitigate moral distress and to cultivate moral resilience and wellbeing.
  • Formulate individual wellbeing plans with follow up for staff with unhealthy responses to internal and external crises.
  • Assist department with educating staff on wellbeing initiatives. - Provide education to staff that focuses on creating a deeper connection and relationship with themselves, their colleagues, patients and family members.
  • Assist with educational workshops aimed at promoting wellness for staff.
  • Educate staff on new initiatives aimed at empowerment, healthy living, and mental wellbeing.
  • Develop and promote educational opportunities to cultivate mindfulness, personal wellbeing, and moral resilience.
  • Develop strategies to support nurses mental and emotional wellbeing based on evidence applied from the context of wellness.
  • Foster moral resilience amongst staff.
  • Identify and promote use of resources and tools, such as peer-to -peer support, debriefing sessions, counseling, and employee assistance programs.
  • Seek opportunities to recognize, analyze, and take action in response to complex patient care, internal disasters, and/or conflict.
  • Assess, and if appropriate, adopt and utilize a standardized screening and intervention tool to recognize and address distress amongst staff.
