We have an opening for a manual mill machinist who has experience producing precision parts or repair work. This is a high - skilled machinist position for someone who is looking for a challenging role. Job opening is for 1st shift but we will consider 2nd shift if you prefer.
The Manual Mill Operator is a highly skilled machinist responsible for setting up and operating manual milling machines to produce precision parts. This position requires advanced machining knowledge similar to tool and die work, including complex setups, tight tolerances, and the ability to machine one-off parts from prints, sketches, or samples. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual milling machines to machine precision parts and repair components
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, specifications and job routings
- Perform advanced machining operations including precision milling, boring, drilling, tapping, slotting, and contouring
- Hold tight tolerances and maintain high surface finish requirements
- Plan and execute complex setups using vises, rotary tables, angle plates, and custom fixturing
- Select proper tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining methods for various materials
- Machine one-off, and short-run components
- Perform tool and die-style work such as fixture building, part modification, and repair machining
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, and height gauges
- Troubleshoot machining challenges and determine the most efficient machining approach
- Maintain equipment and perform routine machine maintenance
- Assist with training less experienced machinists when needed
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Qualifications
- 5+ years experience operating manual milling machines in a machining or toolroom environment
- Strong blueprint reading skills, including geometric tolerancing and tight tolerances
- Advanced knowledge of machining practices and metal cutting principles
- Experience with complex setups and fixture work
- Ability to independently machine parts from prints, sketches, or worn samples
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage job priorities
Preferred Experience
- Tool and die, toolroom, or prototype machining experience
- Experience machining specialty components
- Experience with manual lathes, grinders, or other manual equipment
