Job Overview

The Rights Department at Primary Wave is responsible for managing the registration, tracking, and protection of musical works. This role supports the Rights Department by ensuring compliance with copyright laws and industry standards while accurately administering music rights and related royalty income.

Key Responsibilities


  • Copyright & Database Management: Maintain and update internal databases of musical works, rights holders, licenses, and key dates. Research ownership, splits, artist and recording release information using internal systems and external sources, including domestic and international PROs/CMOs, SoundExchange Direct, neighboring rights organizations, publisher administration portals, distribution platforms, payment systems, and third-party vendors. Research and assist with the identification of black box income.
  • Rights Administration & Documentation: Support the Rights Department in maintaining accurate records of ownership, licensing, agreements, and royalty income. Assist with income tracking, including facilitation of Letters of Direction, and the implementation and organization of documentation related to rights and revenue transfers.
  • Contract Support: Work closely with the Rights Department and Business Affairs to ensure a clear understanding of catalog rights and acquisitions. Assist with tracking key contract dates and notice requirements.



Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in music business, law, or a related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
  • Experience in music copyright administration, licensing, or intellectual property, preferably within a music publishing or legal environment.
  • Strong knowledge of copyright law, licensing practices, and domestic and international PROs, CMOs, the MLC, and neighboring rights organizations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with music copyright databases and industry software.



Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with music publishing administration portals or similar systems.
  • Understanding of music publishing and distribution agreements, performance rights, neighboring rights, and related music rights.
  • Familiarity with international copyright laws and practices.
