ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Analytics Data Modeling & Enterprise Data Mart Development:

This position is responsible for architecture, design, and maintenance of analytics-ready, reusable data models and enterprise analytics data marts that support both self-service analytics and traditional reporting solutions. The Data Mart Architect translates business requirements and domain knowledge provided by data SMEs and business stakeholders into centralized modeling logic, ensuring business rules, calculations, and definitions are implemented once and reused consistently across multiple reporting and analytics platforms, including Power BI and SSRS. This role focuses on building analytical models and data marts optimized for performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability, with care given to defining and enforcing modeling standards related to grain, keys, measures, and reusable calculations. Certified analytical assets produced by this role serve as the trusted foundation for governed self-service analytics as well as scheduled, operational and regulatory reporting. The Data Mart Architect designs and builds the core data mart population logic, including incremental load strategies, transformation rules, and dependency sequencing, and implements these patterns to orchestrate and execute data mart loads.

BI Planning, Design, and Implementation:

This position collaborates closely with business intelligence developers, analyst and data SMEs to plan and design analytical solutions that align with enterprise reporting and analytics needs. The Data Mart Architect works with partners within the data life cycle to determine the appropriate placement of logic between source systems, data marts, semantic models and reporting layers, proactively identifying opportunities to reduce duplicated logic and improve reuse. This role defines standard pipeline patterns for analytics data mart population and provides guidance to BI developers on extending or maintaining these pipelines under established architectural standards. This role provides guidance and mentoring to BI Developers and analysts on proper consumption of analytical data marts and certified models, ensuring both self-service and traditional reporting solutions are built on consistent trusted data foundations. Modeling approaches are adapted as business needs evolve, with informed departures from traditional patterns when necessary to support performance, scalability, and usability.

Analytics Model & Data Mart Administration and Documentation:

This position is responsible for the administration, documentation and ongoing health of analytical data models and data marts. Responsibilities include maintaining clear documentation describing data mart purpose, grain, assumptions and key measures as well as monitoring performance, reliability and usage patterns. The Data Mart Architect also documents data mart load and orchestration logic, including pipeline design, dependencies, and failure-handling patterns, and participates in change control processes related to analytical data assets. The Data Mart Architect participates in establishing change control processes related to analytical assets and proactively identifies recurring issues or inefficiencies that indicate opportunities for structural, performance, or process improvements.

Professional Development:

This position is responsible for learning and improving upon the skills necessary to stay competitive in analytics data modeling, data mart design and reporting enablement practices. The Data Mart Architect actively pursues professional development through training, certifications, conferences, and self-directed learning to stay aligned with evolving Data Mart Architecting techniques, dimensional modeling approaches, and best practices across both self-service and traditional reporting BI platforms.
