Responsibilities

As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will support engineering and production activities for the Hysitron product line of nanomechanical test instruments. This hands on role provides exposure to engineering problem solving, process optimization, and new product introduction (NPI). The intern will assist with engineering tasks, contribute to production-readiness activities, and perform instrument assembly and quality related tasks as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Support engineering design modifications including ECOs, validation testing, and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot instruments, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Contribute to quality control activities including instrument testing and component evaluation.
  • Assist with hands on assembly of prototypes and production components.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collect and analyze data to support engineering, production, and applications teams.
  • Collaborate professionally with engineers and technicians.
  • Perform additional project based duties as assigned.


Qualifications

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Moderate walking, standing, sitting, and/or climbing; heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside; work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects or vehicles; exposure to dampness and humidity; work on ladders and scaffolding; exposure to slippery and uneven surfaces.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
  • General PC skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated ability to work in team environment
  • Self-motivated with good time management skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manipulate small parts with tweezers under magnification
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum a sophomore level, currently enrolled in an accredited technical school or university with a major in nanoscience, electronics or engineering
