Lab Manager

A growing civil engineering consulting firm is hiring a Lab Manager in West Palm Beach, FL. This role leads daily lab operations supporting construction materials testing across soil and concrete projects. The position offers direct impact on lab performance, team development, and project delivery, along with a defined path toward advancement as the company continues a strong multi-year growth trajectory.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee 100% of laboratory operations including scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation
• Manage lab personnel, including training, performance tracking, and task delegation
• Ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, and internal quality standards across all testing procedures
• Perform and review soil and concrete testing, including classification, compaction, strength, and durability tests
• Interpret test data and deliver reports to project managers and clients within defined turnaround times
• Maintain lab safety protocols with 0 tolerance for non-compliance incidents
• Track and manage lab financial performance including budget, utilization rates, and cost control
• Coordinate equipment calibration, maintenance schedules, and inventory management

Basic Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in construction materials laboratory testing
• Active certifications in concrete and/or soil testing (ACI, NICET, Earthworks, or equivalent)
• Proven experience performing soil classification and concrete testing procedures
• Working knowledge of ASTM and AASHTO standards
• Ability to interpret and communicate technical test results clearly

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior responsibility for lab operations, scheduling, or financial tracking
• Experience managing lab KPIs such as turnaround time, error rates, and utilization
• Additional certifications across multiple materials testing disciplines
