Position Overview

The Equipment Engineer will play a key role in optimizing the company's equipment fleet across multiple projects. This role requires a strong grasp of heavy civil construction equipment, advanced proficiency in technology tools (especially Microsoft Office and Power BI), and the ability to collaborate closely with field personnel, project managers, and the maintenance department.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities

Data & Technology Management

  • Build and maintain dashboards and reports in Power BI to track utilization, cost trends, downtime, maintenance KPIs, and billing metrics.
  • Leverage Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Teams, Outlook, Word) to manage equipment records, tracking logs, cost analyses, and reporting.

Maintenance Coordination

  • Partner with the maintenance department to schedule repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspections.
  • Assist in monitoring parts usage, equipment condition, and failure trends.
  • Help ensure equipment maintenance documentation is accurate and up to date.

Equipment Tracking & Logistics

  • Manage equipment ordering, sourcing, rentals, and delivery logistics.
  • Maintain accurate real-time tracking of equipment location, movement, and project assignments.
  • Monitor equipment utilization and ensure timely billing and charge-outs between projects.

Field Relations & Communication

  • Build strong working relationships with superintendents, foremen, mechanics, and project teams.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate equipment performance and gather feedback.
  • Provide training and support on equipment workflows, technology tools, and reporting systems.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Hands-on knowledge of heavy equipment types, components, systems, and common parts.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and general Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate field needs into data-driven solutions.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in heavy civil construction or equipment fleet management.
  • Background in maintenance operations or equipment logistics.
  • Familiarity with fleet management systems, GPS tracking, or telematics.
