Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to design, implement, secure, and maintain our enterprise network infrastructure in support of missioncritical FAA BNATCS operations within the CIO organization. This role would ensure high availability, performance, and stability of network services while supporting modernization, cloud connectivity, and evolving security requirements. This role will collaborate with architecture, cybersecurity, and operations teams to deliver resilient network solutions, resolve complex issues, and provide technical leadership across the network environment. Key responsibilities may include:
Oversee the planning and integration of physical network infrastructure into construction and renovation projects.
- Ensure cabling pathways, network rooms, and power requirements meet performance and security standards.
- Coordinate with construction teams, architects, and IT engineers to align physical infrastructure with future system deployments.
- Review and approve engineering drawings, site surveys, and documentation for network readiness.
- Conduct site inspections to validate installation quality, compliance, and readiness.
- Support capacity planning and scalability assessments for future technological growth.
- Provide technical oversight to subcontractors and vendors performing infrastructure installations.
- Maintain detailed as-built documentation and network infrastructure records.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity and operations teams to ensure physical designs support secure, resilient networks. Ensure physical network designs meet Zero Trust and NIST 80053 requirements (SC, PE, and CM control families)
- Integrate physical network infrastructure with logical network architecture (VLANs, trunking, routing, segmentation) to ensure seamless deployment
- Support readiness for equipment installation including routing/switching platforms, firewalls, wireless access points, and optical transport devices
- Validate environmental and security readiness of network rooms (access control, surveillance, monitoring, fire suppression, grounding)
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 3+ years with a Master's degree, or a PhD in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (master's degree preferred)
- 3+ years of professional experience in Network Engineering or a directly related/similar position
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems, network room design, and site readiness planning
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., TIA/EIA, BICSI) for cabling and physical infrastructure
- Experience coordinating with construction teams and subcontractors on large-scale projects
- Handson experience with network infrastructure integration in construction/renovation environments, including cabling pathways, telecom rooms, rack layouts, and power/grounding
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with network security principles, Zero Trust concepts, and federal cybersecurity frameworks (NIST 800-53, FISMA)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills, especially across construction, engineering, and operations teams
- Strong troubleshooting skills across LAN/WAN/WLAN and hybrid cloud network environments
- US Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain an FAA Public Trust suitability
- This is a 100% on-site position; candidate's must reside locally and be willing to commute to our Herndon/Chantilly, VA or Bowie, MD locations
- Occasional travel may be required to Peraton and customer facilities within the local National Capital Region
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous exposure to FAA programs or NAS systems
- Familiarity with FAA systems, federal modernization programs, or critical infrastructure environments
- Experience with data center buildouts, PoE deployments, or hybrid network environments
- Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and physical security best practice for network facilities
- Background in capacity planning and scalability strategies for evolving network demands
- Certifications such as BICSI RCDD, CCNA, or CompTIA Network+

Target Salary Range
$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
