We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of D&C Quality Lead in our World Wide Drilling and Completions organization based in Houston, Texas. Essential Duties:
- Monitor Oxy global D&C tool usage and performance through Business Unit (BU) office and field visits, data analysis, reviews, and other means. Disseminate bulletins to all BUs on common failures.
- Manage and direct the activities of the D&C Quality Coordinator.
- Monitor and evaluate performance of third-party quality auditors and inspection companies globally; review vetting and approval of TPI auditors.
- Approve Quality Plans (QPs) and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) for specialty tool and liner vendors and manage the third-party inspection (TPI) process.
- Approve updates or revisions to QPs and ITPs as required when new tools are introduced, or new common failures are identified.
- Oversee failure investigations, tool teardowns, root cause analysis and initiate and follow-up on implementation of corrective actions.
- Upon request of the BUs, attend tool teardowns and vendor meetings in the capacity of Oxy's Subject Matter Expert (SME) for quality and integrity of D&C equipment.
- Manage shop audits, including defining scope, to identify gaps in vendor's QA process and ensure adherence to agreed-upon QPs and ITPs.
- Define Oxy's drilling and completion tool failure metrics and report to WWDC and BUs on consistent basis.
- Manage and direct RCFA meetings and outputs
- Work with BUs on downhole tool lost-in-hole (LIH) charge tickets to reduce Oxy liability.
- Identify areas of potential improvement and take action to improve performance through personnel support, ad hoc training, identification of new technology, and other means.
- Manage special projects as needed to develop capabilities, evaluate new technology, and make other improvements in drilling and completion equipment integrity.
- Maintain current and draft new Standards, Guidelines, and Best Practices related to drilling and completion equipment integrity.
- Develop and maintain contract technical specifications templates and assist BUs and SCM to ensure that contracts with drilling or completion equipment elements have correct technical specifications.
- Manage Open Wells data and NPT events related to drill string and downhole tool integrity and ensure global data is complete, accurate, and useful. Communicate issues to the BU Focal Point to ensure the OpenWells data is correct.
- Maintain knowledge base of drilling and completion equipment design, use, and inspection requirements and industry best practices and ensure that Oxy global standards and practices conform.
- Establish and maintain contacts in the industry to identify new technology and providers. Screen technologies and providers and communicate good prospects to BUs
- Coordinate cross-BU initiatives that support the development of a functional community of practice. Coordination with the BUs will be through the BU Focal Point.
- Assist in prioritizing failure mitigation efforts based on severity, expense, and/or frequency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required.Engineering, science, or technical discipline preferred.
- Minimum 15 years' experience in contract drilling, operator drilling, inspection, or drilling service company related to drill string or BHA components.
- Minimum 8 years' experience related to drill string design, use, inspection, or integrity.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in implementation and application of Quality Systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of drilling and completion operations.
- Expert knowledge of drilling and completion equipment component design, manufacture, inspection, and use.
- Significant experience with land drilling and completion operations. Familiarity of offshore operations is a plus.
- Knowledge of safety principles, implementation techniques and program maintenance skills.
- Skilled computer user, proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Powerpoint.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with other departments, management, government, field, and contract personnel.
- Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Must have completed formal training in drill pipe and BHA component design, manufacture, inspection, and use delivered by an industry recognized authority.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts.
- Willingness to travel globally with various work schedules.
- Experience in international oil & gas operations.
- ASNT Level II training sufficient for certification in VT, MT, UT, and PT is desired.
- Proficiency in API, ASNT, ASME, NACE and DS-1 Standards
