The Advanced Materials Development Laboratory Supervisor leads the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring efficient execution of testing programs and delivery of accurate, high-quality results. This role provides guidance to laboratory technicians, partners with materials engineers to support testing needs, and manages laboratory testing services and equipment. The position is responsible for maintaining laboratory tools, systems, and compliance standards while collaborating with internal teams and equipment suppliers to support innovation, operational efficiency, and departmental objectives.

Key responsibilities (to name a few):

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations to ensure testing programs are executed efficiently, results are delivered accurately, and operational goals are met.
  • Develop and implement test plans, procedures, and operational improvements that enhance testing efficiency, reduce cycle times, and optimize laboratory throughput.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop laboratory personnel, ensuring appropriate staffing, scheduling, workload distribution, and cross-training to support productivity, flexibility, and high performance.
  • Monitor laboratory performance metrics and analyze results to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and increased equipment utilization.
  • Implement operational plans that support current and future laboratory needs while aligning with departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is properly inspected, maintained, and operating effectively through preventive maintenance programs and coordination with maintenance teams to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements including ISO 9001, TS16949, and other applicable company and industry regulations.
  • Identify and address safety and environmental risks, participate in incident investigations, and promote responsible environmental practices including proper waste management and resource conservation.
  • Analyze and report laboratory test data using statistical tools to support laboratory operations, product development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor's degree; Engineering, Science, or a related field-preferred
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in a laboratory, testing, equipment, or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in equipment, instrumentation, and testing systems, including an understanding of testing and measurement principles.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001, TL9000, and/or TS16949, and familiarity with regulatory and compliance environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising team members, managing projects, and building effective teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, change management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience collaborating with business leaders and cross-functional teams to support operational initiatives and improvements.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
