Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Innovate Carolina, the brand umbrella for the work of the Office of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, leads the University in its goal to uncover and unleash the vast innovation potential of faculty, students, staff, alumni and stakeholders. IEED works with leadership across campus to set strategy, provide central services, establish and foster partnerships, and garner resources to support the University's innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development agenda. UNC-Chapel Hill is generating ground-breaking ideas through research to become a leading fundamental and translational research university. IEED uses a federated model to strengthen the innovation ecosystem that consists of an extensive network of University-facilitated programs. This network of students, faculty and staff are working together to tackle the most challenging problems in North Carolina and the world.
Position Summary
Innovate Carolina's Student Engagement and Events Program Manager is responsible for managing Innovate Carolina's student community, 1789. The mission of the 1789 Community is to support student ventures and ideas and bolster an interdisciplinary community for all students interested in innovation an entrepreneurship

This individual is the lead for student awards, mentors and events related to innovation and entrepreneurship. The role includes identifying and evaluating best practices for outreach and engagement strategies, building relationships with faculty and staff across campus and working closely with database, communication and new venture services internal teams. Specific responsibilities are to:

Build and maintain community of mentors and resources for all UNC students interested in innovation and entrepreneurship:
* Build and foster relationships with departments on campus to ensure students and student programs are aware of resources related to innovation and entrepreneurship. Recruit and orient mentors as needed. Explore new software, programs and resources that may be helpful to the community. Collect and organize data to capture impact measures and analyze trends.

Manage student I & E Funding opportunities:
* Work with research analyst team and admin to manage and processes student venture funding, internship and travel awards. Manage a diverse and effective review committee and process. Act as key communicator in organizing the review process, communicating with students and reviewers, delivering results, and following up on student ventures.

Manage student intern team:
* Recruit, onboard and manage student interns. Provide bi-weekly check-in meetings and progress reports for each intern.

Manage student Events:
* Plan annual internship meet and greet and support UNC's participation in competitions and programs related to innovation and entrepreneurship through Innovate Carolina's new innovation hub .
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
- Intermediate-level responsibilities with Excel, financial, personnel, and reporting systems.
- Ability to maintain and balance deadlines and details on any given workday.
- Demonstrated customer-facing knowledge and experience navigating university programs.
- Skilled in interacting with students, faculty, external partners, and university administration.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
