EARLY MODERN IBERIAN ATLANTIC FACULTY FELLOW The Department of Spanish and Portuguese invites applications for the position of Faculty Fellow in Early Modern Iberian Atlantic and/or Trans-Oceanic Studies, starting on 9/1/2026. The position will initially be offered for a period of one year, renewable for up to a maximum of three years in rank, pending budgetary and administrative approval. We are interested in literary, visual, anthropological, and cultural approaches to colonialism, enslavement, racializations, empire, gender/sexuality, and/or material culture. Expertise in languages in addition to Spanish and/or Portuguese is welcomed. The teaching commitment will be 2 courses in one semester, and 1 course in the other semester. Individuals who are in the process of completing their PhDs must graduate by the start date of the position. The Department of Spanish & Portuguese is composed of a diverse group of scholars who have worked together to create a rigorous and inclusive environment for research and teaching. Faculty work in literature, history, philosophy, law, art history, and a range of interrelated areas including archival studies, animal studies, sexuality studies, performance studies, memory studies, and environmental aesthetics, while also encouraging new approaches to questions of visual media, print culture, and sound. The successful candidate will teach in our undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and also have the opportunity to collaborate with many units and projects adjacent to the department, including NYUs Study-Abroad program at NYU Madrid, the Espacio de Culturas, the Center of Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS), the Center for the Study of Africa and the African Diaspora, the Hemispheric Institute, and the Center for the Humanities, among others.
